Clear divide between Trump and American establishment. How should Pakistan proceed?

Deep state is a big big problem. Not only for Pakistan, but the rest of the world.

Pakistan should work closely with Trump. We must give Trump the victory in Afghanistan. The deep state is going to go into a frenzy.

Deep state or American Military Industrial Complex or Pentagon runs foreign policy of USA.

Obama wanted to get American troops out of Afghanistan. Instead Obama increased troops to highest ever in Afghanistan, early in his presidency.

Same thing is happening with Trump. His campaign promise was to get troops back home from Afghanistan. But the first thing Trump did after getting elected was increasing 10,000 more US troops in Afghanistan on Pentagon recommendation and Pentagon wanted to increase troops even more.

Right now Trump wants to pull out American troops from Afghanistan to fulfill his campaign promise and get reelected. But the Deep State would never agree to that. Hence recently Trump had to say that he would keep some American presence in Afghanistan.

American Military wants to have at least 2-3 bases in Afghanistan; wants Taliban to negotiate with Afghan government and agree to power sharing formula and contest elections and USA is pressuring Pakistan to force the Taliban to settle for these terms.

This goes directly against the national interest of Pakistan and Pakistan would never do that.

It all depends on how the US economy is doing in the run-up to the elections. USA is long overdue for a recession and it will depend on when it hits relative to the voting.

The USA wants to withdraw from Afghanistan, preferably on their own terms, but if not possible then on somewhat acceptable terms. President Trump isn't a fool despite what many people would like to think, it isn't Trump alone, the republicans are behind him, the ones in the republican party who matter are in unison with President Trump. They want to win the next elections and withdraw from Afghanistan. They are bleeding billions and billions in Afghanistan and more importantly, the American public is extremely tired of wars.

A large majority of United States military personnel come from about four or five states. People need to understand that the American public has begun to hate the war in Afghanistan. This is something way beyond Vietnam weariness!!

The chances are that President Trump will successfully end the war in Afghanistan.

Musharraf ripped apart Pakistani establishment in immediate post 9/11 era , to accommodate American demands and wishes.

Something similar needs to happen now in America as well. Trump needs to do surgery and I hope removal of Dan Coats is the beginning.

I agree. No one will be voting for the best candidate but the least horrible one. I might stay home come election time.
