Gentlemen and Ladies:

As always i will ask for input. Anyone made a home made clay oven? I have cleaned up a massive drum barrel which I am going to line up with clay and the cut the bottom to have place to put wood fire.

Any designs or suggestions welcome.

Purpose: To make spit chicken tandoor birds or peri-peri marinaded. Also to put in bread on the side.

Concerns: Vertical mount or more a horizontal? If vertical, i am thinking 1m height to be sufficient. Cracking of clay - meaning i have to reline it from time to time - no issues there. clay is all over the place here. Next how to line up to avoid it breaking up - bricks first then line with clay?

incidentally, can someone pass along good receipe to make the tandoor bread - that is soft and chewy; fortunately flour here is very very very good. I have barley and sorghum which we grind at our home; then combine with wheat flour.

Not sure if people use sorghum or barley in their flour mix. It should come out good. Our harvest of maize is done already but we make maize bread or pap from it.

Please pass along receipes (tandoor bread, kebabs, tandoor chicken etc - one you make ur self not; mamaz/grandmas receipes are most highly prized - use raw ingredients not packets.

super ... found the one I liked. This is a perfect fit. I was thinking of lining with clay but since using pot is a better idea - i have several old ones that fit into the same side of steel drum.

.... please wear googles when using angle grinder unlike this fellow

The pic won’t upload because the file is too large ...sorry bro
no worries. Found the perfect fit; mastankhan's pointed out two core designs. I am going to do in drum first; if that works; then i will put a brick and sandaround it to make it more permanent.
