What's new

Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) overview video

CNS recently had a official visit with Chinese President Xi and his Chinese counterpart PLAN CNS, during the 70 'th anniversary celebration of PLAN. I wonder what was on the agenda!

So if this is what CDDL has where they will build the other infrastructures? I thought that place was also owned by CDDL but looks like it's not. So will they expand their are into the river like Cox's Bazar Airport?

And why do they need design house if they buy a foreign design? Will they build our frigate with completely new design?

how many docks are to be built because 6 frigates with 1-2 dry dock will take a long time

Only one. It seems the current dockyard also has capacity to build frigate.

There is basic design, then detailed design that derives from that, the latter is very complicated where you have to use finite element analysis to measure/simulate twisting forces of a designed welded sub-assembly (and interaction with other welded sub-assemblies) on screen and then make amendments.

Ananda Shipyard in Narayanganj as well as Western Marine in CTG had full CAD/CAM design dept. from get-go and those are small private yards. These are basic basic requirements.

You can place at least two Samudra Avijan class of 3500 tonnes at one time in the dock. I do not believe the new frigates will be larger than that in displacement. So batch of two for hull builds, then float them out to dockside and place superstructure and weapons-fit on them later (once engine/vls etc, has been built on the hull etc.).

I figure maybe eight to ten months for the first two and then six months each for the subsequent pairs. Hulls can be floated out to dockside once complete. You don't need to have full builds wait in dry-dock for weapons fits as well as superstructure above the hull.

But when all is said and done, this is Bangladesh, after all... :-)

My optimism will be moderated somehow, I am sure.

dude, navies improvements will be **** all if air force doesn't improve... and i'm just so hopeless i think it would be best to disband that group altogether.... give the fighters to the navy and the transport division to the army

to collaborate on a design... with a foreign builder... take an existing base and increase displace as needed...
helps with low developement cost especially when you have no prior experience
maybe the design house is a long term goal
