ISLAMABAD:

Chinese movies display on Pakistani cinema screens will help diversify the content for Pakistani audiences, said Jamal Shah, Director General Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

“We need to get out of Bollywood and Hollywood movies to educate our audiences through entertainment and move towards Iranian, Turkish and Chinese cinema,” he said talking in connection with Chinese Film Festival currently under way at PNCA.

He said release of Chinese films would help our local cinema industry in terms of entertainment and from economical aspect as well. Jamal Shah said these exchanges would eventually lead towards co-productions between the two countries.

Talking about the festival, he said the reason to encourage this festival was to boost the chances of Pakistani films getting the same space on Chinese cinema screens.

The DG PNCA said they had films exchanges with Germany, USA and European Union (EU) but it was almost non-existent with Pakistani films.

“China is one of the biggest film markets across the world. It will benefit Pakistani cinema immensely if we get the chance to display our content in China,” he said.

About the poll:

The countries I listed as options are six countries mentioned in the article (Pakistan, China, India / Bollywood, United States / Hollywood, Iran and Turkey.

I have made an option for the United Kingdom, considering the history of the United Kingdom with the countries where a lot of members of PDF live and because a large number of the diaspora of these countries live in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is also the fifth largest film market by box office revenue (next to the United States, China, India, Japan).

The eight and ninth option are for Japan and South Korea, because they are the fourth and sixth largest film market by box office revenue and make the most films after India, Nigeria, China and the United States. I did not choose Nigeria, even though they make more movies than Japan and South Korea. This is because I think Japanese and South Korean movies are more known worldwide (and to PDF members) than Nigerian movies.

The tenth option is of course reserved for 'Other'.

Next to the United Kingdom, I did not list any other European country.
That is because there are many European countries that make good movies and I only have ten options to list. I also did not want to reserve one 'European' option for European movies because there is no such thing as 'European' movies. German, French, Italian, Danish, Swedish, Polish etc. are all different from eachother and deserve to be recognised as such and not to be lumped into an 'European' category.

Therefore, you could choose 'Other' and maybe comment which other country you mean.

Well considering which country has the highest budget for the movies, number of movies. Also the language which is mostly understood/spoken through out the world. I would say US. But considering what is the aim for this particular step. I agree with this:

Any-ways haven't seen an Indian movie for a long time. In my personal opinion, they make you dumb and probably kill some of your braincells through that 3 hour session.

Turkey, US and UK

Turkish movies are really cheesy but very funny. Like recep ivedik. But alot of them are very emotional and serious like incer riceli, sadece sen and especially mucize. And I assume everyone is already aware of the sea of Turkish tv show hits. These are few of the many I've watched on netflix.

And British TV shows and movies just a unique kick to them like Happy Valley, Broadchurch, Hinterland(ill gwys), SHERLOCK, Bodyguard and Collateral.
I especially love the period pieces such as Downton Abbey, The Crown, Johnathan strange and Mr. Norrell(love this one), The Paradise etc.

And the usual Hollywood stuff. I liked Marvel series. Dont know why they've stopped making them.

When I go watch a movie, I go for entertainment, not to support some culture or country.

It's great that they are diversifying content, but hope they don't give it more screen time and cinemas than it is worth in the market, because goal is to make profit for yourself, not make profits for others.

Ohhh in German. I really liked "Er Ist Weider Da" meaning "Look Who's Back"

Chile deserves to be at the top of the list, they took a girl's letters and diary and made this:

This is a historical drama that takes place 1915-1919. This touches the backdrop of WWI and the Spanish Influenza. Focusing on one Chilean family and particularly one teenage girl.

In the film, there is a scene where she wants to burn her diary, she asks her mother to burn her diary in a real letter. Most of the events in the film are from either diary or letters. I own a copy of both in print.

The best part is probably this:
