I was watching TikTok and some Western english speaking nurse told viewers that masks don't work, they serve no purpose in keeping you or others safe from the coronavirus. I think that is more cultural.
In East Asia many people wear masks when they are sick.
I think they are used to doing that.
Before the Corona virus, I also saw Asian tourists sometimes wear the masks.

Dude because US public went into panic and over bought masks. Not to forget hoarders bought all masks to sell for more money on Amazon and Ebay.

Masks do not help against the virus as long as you are getting into close contact with people in gatherings, but put you at more risk to touch your face more often after touching infected surfaces with your hands.
Masks will only help if you are already exposed to a lot of people which you should not be a part of in the first place.

In China, wearing masks greatly reduced the number of infected, my advice is wearing it, but that's everyone's own choice.

Because there is shortage on masks which is vital to terminally ill people like cancer patients and the Chinese swept the whole market with their irrational belief that the mask is a solution to the problem.

We wouldnt have pandemics coming out of Asia every once in a while if the masks were actually preventing viruses from spreading.
And dont get me wrong this is not a racist rant or something i know by far not all deseases come from Asia but widespread use of surgical masks are only prevelant over there which proves its ineffectiveness.
