Chinese-built railway starts test run in Sri Lanka

Does india have a underground subway in any city yet? We dont have one in pakistan although they always seem to plan it for karachi.
Underground railway stations or subways are usually avoided in 3rd world countries due to poor law enforcement conditions. I am not sure about Indian underground railway station but i know in Lahore several times underground passageway were shot down by LDA due to aforementioned reasons.

Whoops. Didn't think about that.

No, I guess it is not practical in our part of the world which receive heavy to very heavy rainfall annually. We can't simply replicate that others do. We will have to take into account the geography and climate in our region, right ?? :)

Hmm chinese have those for many years now and in almost all major cities with different climates. With such huge indian budget and economy i think india will make those before pakistan makes any underground subway.

Lahore has high chances of betting a subway i think. Everyone keeps building lahore .

Maybe in the Deccan, North West and Tamil Nadu. I don't think it will even be considered for Northeast and South especially Kerala. We have torrential rain and every year for almost 4 - 5 months. So subway transport is just not a practical solution.

We have rain lots and lots of it too in kashmir pakistan. But its mountains plus disputed part no one will build anything like that here until we resolve disputes.

Fully Underground? No. But many metros have several underground stations. India's first metro line at Kolkata has 6 elevated stations, 2 at grade and the remaining 15 underground. Upcoming line 3 of Mumbai metro will be fully underground except 1 at grade station.

The question is is it really needed ?? And above all will it be technically and economically feasible ??

I mean the underground transportation systems are visible in huge Metropolitan cities around the world where there is very little to no room available for overland transport anymore. You won't find these things in remote villages or even suburbs unless someone is really mad. Building underground system is too expensive compared to others. :-)

Lahore fits the bill.
