China's Sun wins record 4th straight 400 free at worlds

GWANGJU, South Korea (AP) — China's Sun Yang won a record fourth consecutive 400-meter freestyle title in the first final of the world swimming championships, with rival Mack Horton of Australia rallying to finish second.

Sun worked his way from fifth to first and then easily kept Horton at bay over the last lap Sunday night.

Sun touched first in 3 minutes, 42.44 seconds. Horton took silver in 2:43.17, while Gabriele Detti of Italy earned bronze in 3:43.23.

The Chinese star won his other 400 free titles in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Mack Horton should be banned for his protest. Sun Yang was cleared by the swimming authorities (FINA) to compete.

If Mack Horton doesn’t accept the official word of FINA, then he should not be allowed to compete in FINA events.

I personally think doping should be legalised across all sports. What’s the reason to still ban doping in sports? To have ‘clean’ athletes? To make it ‘fair’?

All physical-based sports have doping. The more advanced countries have the technology to always beat the existing anti-doping system so they don’t get caught even though they are actually doping. To even out the playing field, doping should be legalised.

GWANGJU, South Korea - FINA decided on Monday to send a warning to Australia's swimming body and Mack Horton for a controversial move on the part of the Australian swimmer in the men's 400m freestyle awarding ceremony.

"The FINA Executive met today in Gwangju to analyze the situation related with the men's 400m free victory ceremony and has decided to send a warning letter to Swimming Australia Ltd and to athlete Mack Horton," the FINA said in a statement.

China's Olympic champion Sun Yang won his fourth straight world title in the men's 400 freestyle at the 18th FINA World Championships in the South Korean city of Gwangju on Sunday.

During the awarding ceremony, Horton did not step onto the podium after claiming a silver medal in the event.

"While FINA respects the principle of freedom of speech, it has to be conducted in the right context," said the FINA.

"As in all major sports organizations, our athletes and their entourages are aware of their responsibilities to respect FINA regulations and not to use FINA events to make personal statements or gestures," the statement noted.

The statement added: "The matter over which Mack Horton was allegedly protesting is currently under review by CAS and therefore it is not appropriate for FINA to prejudice this hearing by commenting further."

Sun requested a public hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to defend his innocence against alleged anti-doping rule violations.

Mack Horton challenged the authority of FINA. FINA cleared Sun Yang to compete. Horton should get a life ban from all future FINA events for challenging their authority. If any other swimmer wants to carry out these public stunts, ban them for life too. If the problem persists, ban their entire swim team.

The Anglo-Saxon white supremacists think they own swimming. They think only their people have an exclusive right to win at swimming.

Any swimmer from a non-English speaking country wins anything at swimming, the Anglo-Saxon white supremacist will accuse you of cheating and gang up on the athlete like a pack of hyenas.

Look at how they treated Ye Shiwen at the Olympics in 2012.
