China’s Propaganda Machine Takes Aim at U.S. Over Trade War
written by AdminMay 14, 2019

BEIJING — The trade dispute between the United States and China is escalating — and so is the war of words between the two countries.

Nationalism has surged in China in recent days as the government seeks to portray China as a victim of American bullying. With trade talks stalled, Chinese commentators have taken aim at President Trump and vowed to resist American demands. Here’s a look at what is being said on social media and state news outlets.

Allowable Anger
raise tariffs on nearly $60 billion worth of American goods, including beer and wine. Some have urged Mr. Xi and the ruling Communist Party to take more severe actions, such as imposing boycotts on American goods or selling United States Treasuries. Analysts said the economic tensions are likely to last for years.

“There seems to be a wide consensus within the party that this trade war is going to be long,” Dr. Yu said. “Now it’s just a question of how to manage public opinion.”

Taking on Trump
President Trump’s efforts to taunt and threaten China in recent days have left many Chinese citizens incensed. Mr. Trump last week raised tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods, and he has repeatedly blamed the Chinese for the collapse of trade negotiations.

While the state-run news media in China have largely avoided attacking Mr. Trump by name, internet users have been less generous. They have circulated cartoons like one titled “Giant Baby Trump” to highlight what they describe as the president’s mercurial tendencies.

“Trump’s behavior will only hurt the innocent, damaging the global economy and causing destruction to both sides,” a user wrote on Weibo, a Chinese social media site similar to Twitter.

Stoking Nationalism
Since the start of the trade dispute last year, Chinese leaders have tried to keep nationalism in check to avoid upsetting the trade talks. But this week, the government seemed to give it free rein.

The internet was awash in propaganda slogans, like the one above, which declares in part, “Don’t even think about bullying!” Commentators have drawn comparisons between the current trade dispute and China’s humiliation at the hands of foreign powers during the colonial era.

One of the most widely watched videos in China on Tuesday was a commentary by an anchor for China Central Television, the state broadcaster. The anchor, Kang Hui, above, dismissed the trade dispute as a blip in China’s 5,000-year history and said the country would “fight until the world is made new.”

Victor Shih, an associate professor at the University of California, San Diego, said the video was a warning to the United States as well as an attempt to caution the Chinese public about tumultuous times ahead.

“China is being very upfront about some of the potential turmoil and telling its public to get ready for it,” he said.

Albee Zhang, Zoe Mou and Xiuzhong Wang contributed research.

As if the American propaganda machine hasn't taken aim at China at all ---- LOL

I do not know how many times the US regime argued they are winning.

Even their president argues on daily basis that they are winning, as his twitter posts receives hundreds and thousands of likes.

If this is not propaganda, I do not know what is.

China, on the other hand, NEVER claimed winning anything. China's official position is: "Both sides will suffer. But we will never bow to pressure and definitely strike back."

The OP is being a desperate hater.

Honestly, you should find a life after rohingya crisis. There are more to strategic relationship between China and Bangladesh than rohingya issue only. You may be doing disservice to the best interest of your country.

Trump will dismiss every fact and declare "we always win". People here will buy it. :partay:

You are right. But the Rohingya issue is directly affecting Bangladesh. If China has no interference policy in other countries they could have remain neutral instead of supporting savages of Myanmar and blocking all bill that has been brought against Myanmar to resolve the issue by UN which asked to start by giving full access to start investigation to determine what has exactly happen and to what extent genocide claim is true. If Myanmar has not done anything as they are claiming that would be proven, second setting a time limit for return of Rohingyas which never happened, third making a secure zone for them in Arakan until proper identification process is complete. All of these demand were very reasonable. But by blocking China literally derailed any hope for peaceful resolution.

As Myanmar is not willing to resole the issue so now without sanction or war with full west's support no resolution is possible.

It is costing 3.3 billion usd to host these people. This is not Bangladesh's concern.

However it is a different topics, not related to the thread.

No interference policy is to stand against all foreign interference into another state's domestic policy. And that was exactly what China did.

I can see your reasoning, and I don't intend to dispute. Every country has its own best interest to take care, and it sometimes conflicts with other country's interest, and China is not exception. I just hope we can agree let past be past, and move forward from this point on.

There are more areas we can work together between our two counties than just one sore thumb that you can't let go. See the bigger picture, my friend.

There is no justice justified enough for every party. The important thing is we work together and make future more justified.

When a million people had to flee a country to save them from genocide and take shelter in another country it is no longer a domestic issue but an international issue. UN is the only body to investigate and resolve the issue and bring the culprit to justice.

That's your story. What action Myanmar took inside it's border is it's internal affair, what some states trying to impose on Myanmar is however international affair. There are refugee coming from many parts of the world, however that is no excuse for foreign interference. The world has seen plenty of such events where exaggerated "humanitary disaster" serve as an excuse to foreign aggression.

From no country in a matter of days million refugee comes. It’s an act of genocide and no longer internal matter. It’s the type of justification China try to use to suppress its minorities which is not accepted internationally.

You might as well say "in a matter of minutes" as that still in no way change the nature of the matter. China stand on its principle of non-interference. When any legitimate government takes extreme measure in ridding itself the terrorists groups within its territory, be it the Tamil Tiger in Sir Lanka, the Maute Group in Philippine, or Harakah al-Yaqin in Myanmar, China will resolutely opposite any foreign intervention.

But I think too many people were caught in the net. Innocent women and children in slums now that used to live in Arakan. They should go back to their land, that is the right solution. The 1% of terrorist will be dealt with separetly.

The photo is from at least a year ago, that's how desparate they are about China.

Why everything has to come to Rohingyas that 99% of Chinese people don't have any idea of who they are, you are so obsessed.
