China's first Mars rover drives onto red planet's surface

It will be the 2030s at the earliest before China can carry out a Mars sample return.

NASA already has Perseverance on Mars to collect samples. 2026 is the planned launch for sample return with return to Earth in 2031. Mars sample return is a lot harder than the Moon.
US has never demonstrated such complicated autonomous unmanned mission. Only China is the one who do so with lunar sample. Collect sample is nothing if u don't have the mean to send it back. US publicity of collecting mars sample are nothing.

Did China collect moon sample first on a mission before send another mission to retrieve the sample? No.. we do it in one shot.

2026 is a very ambitious time frame. They said SLS be flying by 2016 and now 5 years later and nada to show for.

China has a better bet to do it in 2024 or 2026. We set it in 2030 becos the people at top thought YF-130 , the most powerful rocket engine will take more time to get it work. It didn't, the engine is almost 99% complete. And can put into operation by this year.

Mars is much harder than the Moon. An 2026 is well established in NASAs plans for the sample return mission.

And there’s no evidence that China will conduct a Mars sample return mission in one go.

The two projects that the chief designer of Mars mission mentioned in the video:

Tianwen-2 Asteroid sample return

Tianwen-3 Mars sample return

There’s no evidence of that. Mars is not the Moon. A Mars sample return mission is a lot harder and more expensive than a Moon mission.

It is not hard if you have super heavy lift rocket and reliable autodocking. Russians attempted it but did not have super heavy lift rocket and reliable autodocking to make it work. The most recent Russian attempt was in 2011 with Fobos Grunt.

This may be all for naught as SpaceX looks to launch a crewed mission to Mars in 2026 or ‘28. At the rate their progressing, it’s definitely possible.

Not possible. SpaceX is over rated.

First they claim spaceX first stage can reuse 20 times and reduce cost but only after 5 times. It need to be dispose. Therefore the cost saving is not achieved. Then they over promise of raptor engine which until now still in development.

It was just a couple months ago that you were laughing at Starship landings blowing up. Now that Starship has successfully soft landed you were nowhere to be found.

Starship is going to orbit THIS year. Once SpaceX perfects reentry, it’s on to in orbit refueling, then to Mars. SpaceX is well on track for an uncrewed mission to Mars in 2024. They are moving rapidly
