What's new

China to lower defense budget growth to 7.5% in 2019 from last year's 8.1% ($177B)

$177 Billion Chinese defense Budget adjusted for PPP might have the equivalence of $250 Billion
$177 billion is the equivalent of $340 billion when adjusted for PPP. China's growth in defense spending is perfectly predictable and formulaic: it's just growth + inflation. China spends between 1.4% (official figure) and 1.9% (SIPRI estimate) of GDP - meaning between $340 and $480 billion adjusted for PPP.

New tactic only can be developed from fighting in real battle. But PLA havent fought any real war after her daddy US stop support CN after Soviet collapse.

Btw: current US air force still using same tactic like in VN war. Just using better war planes while PLAAF is still so stupid, nothing change ( PLAAF didnt fight in 1979 war cos they cant survive against VN air defense system )
Vietnam is going to be the showcase for the new Chinese military. Once China's military modernization is complete, and Vietnam invades Laos and Cambodia, China will stomp it into paste as a signal to the region of its new status as hegemon.

Vietnam won't make same mistake. Vietnam has learnt that no superpower can save her in a war with China. Soviet Union signed treaty of alliance with Vietnam before she invaded Cambodia, it didn't work. Basically Vietnam can get some weapon and aids, and that's all.

It's stupid to be the proxy for great power conflict. Vietnam leader - Lê Duẩn's ambition ruined this country, he wanted to conquer Cambodia but failed and the whole country paid 10 years' war for it.

And we r still control Laos-Cam military forces till now, many VNese become Cambodian generals after 1979 and CN still dare not make any more trouble cos your daddy US-JP stop supporting CN after Soviet collapse. If Soviet still alive, then we still side wt her.

Actually, CN made a much bigger mistake when supporting US to destroy Soviet, so now, CN is US's target and will collapse like SOviet soon cos your stupid PLA cant defend CN wt their stupid human wave tactic (1979 war and 2014 oil rig conflict show how stupid PLA is and nothing change for PLA till now)

VN make mistake, so we only control 60-65% of SCS(east VN sea), a CN core interest where 75% CN-SK-JP merchant ships must pass throught, while CN make less mistake, and they only control 10-12 %

The hatred make you blinded.
1, China side with US in 1980s to contain USSR for her national security. If you read China's history, threats always come from north, not south. Vietnam was never be a threat to China, and will not be.
2, USSR lost 5300 thousands square kilometers territory, half population. The richest and best part of USSR is Ukraine and Belarus and baltic states. USSR also lost central Asia, that made Belt and Road Initiative possible.
3, USSR lost influence in middle and east Europe.
4, USSR lost industrialization and military superiority.
5, USSR was super power, Russia is great power. There are huge difference between them.
6, USSR lost faith in their own country, their heroes were spurned, their history was spurned.
7, Russia is friend of China, for now. Because Russia has limited diplomacy choices.

So, I would say, It's win-win for both China and USA.

China has no intention to invade Vietnam, not worth it. There are islands and territorial water dispute between two countries. Not a very big deal.

We still do business and share similar culture, don't we? I would say Vietnamese looks like Chinese and behaves like Chinese, we both use chopsticks, right? Vietnamese learn Chinese characters to read your history book, right? You simply can not tell a Vietnamese or Chinese by looking.

Too much nationalism is just a illusion or fever. No good.

Vietnam won't succeed by hating China. We Chinese don't hate Vietnam at all. I can feel the pain of small country messed up with a huge neighbor. Side with USA won't save Vietnam when needed. Just be pragmatic and face the reality, buddy. Relax and enjoy the life.

Have you seen the "intelligence" of Vietnamese like @Viva_Viet? I wouldn't bet they're not dumb enough to make the same mistake.

Vietnam national leaders come to China and take our policy back from time to time. They are smart guys.

Wisdom? I am not sure.

VN just wanna expand peacefully to the South and West as we have beening doing since Mongol invasion era. We simply cant rely on CN to counter a big enemies like Mongol in 12th century and USA cos CN army is very stupid since ancient time (CN still use human wave tactic in 1979 war and lost badly ).

Bcs PLA is very stupid, so CN is gonna collapse again due to US's threat (sanction on CN economy , set up THAAD in SK to monitor CN), we dont see PLA can make any sucess in the near furture (can not take back TW or take more islands from VN when daddy US-JP stop supporting). So, its just a waste to put more money to an useless/corrupted force like PLA

What if the US collapses?

Do you think Vietnam would join the long line of nations oppressed under US barbarism over the century?

U.S. trade deficit jumps to 10-year high in 2018

The U.S. trade deficit last year has surged to the highest level since 2008, according to a report by U.S. Commerce Department Wednesday.

Fresh data shows that the U.S. December trade deficit stood at 59.8 billion U.S. dollars, contributing to its whole-year trade deficit of 621 billion U.S. dollars.

The country's trade gap with China, Mexico and the European Union also widened sharply, the report showed. The goods trade deficit with China increased 11.6 percent to an all-time high of 419.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2018.

The trade deficit has deteriorated despite the White House's protectionist trade policy, which President Donald Trump said is needed to shield U.S. manufacturers from what he says is unfair foreign competition.

The release of the December report was delayed by a 35-day partial shutdown of the government that ended on January 25.

When adjusted for inflation, the goods trade deficit surged 10.0 billion U.S. dollars to a record 91.6 billion U.S. dollars in December. The jump in the so-called real goods trade deficit suggests that trade was probably a bigger drag on fourth-quarter gross domestic product than initially estimated by the government.

The government reported last week that trade subtracted 0.22 percentage point from GDP growth in the fourth quarter. The economy grew at a 2.6 percent annualized rate in the October-December quarter, slowing from the third quarter's brisk 3.4 percent pace.

The downbeat trade data joined weak December retail sales, construction spending, housing starts and business spending on equipment reports in setting the economy on a low growth trajectory in the first quarter.

The trade deficit in December was driven by 1.9 percent drop in exports of goods and services to a 10-month low of 205.1 billion U.S. dollars. Exports are weakening because of slowing global demand and a strong dollar, which is making U.S.-made goods less competitive on the international market.

Exports of industrial supplies and materials fell by 2.1 billion U.S. dollars, with shipments of petroleum products dropping 0.9 billion U.S. dollars and crude oil decreasing 0.5 billion U.S. dollars. Exports of capital goods dropped 1.7 billion U.S. dollars, led by a 1.0 billion U.S. dollars decline in civilian aircraft shipments.

In December, imports of goods and services increased 2.1 percent to 264.9 billion U.S. dollars. Consumer goods imports jumped 2.4 billion U.S. dollars, boosted by a 0.7 billion U.S. dollars increase in imports of household and kitchen appliances.

Cellphone imports increased 0.6 billion U.S. dollars. Capital goods imports increased 2.7 billion U.S. dollars, with imports of computer accessories rising 0.7 billion U.S. dollars. Computer imports also increased 0.7 billion U.S. dollars.

US collapse is just like Mongol collapse, good for VN too. Remember that, to stop VN expansion for unifying sub Mekong region, both CN-US had to shake hands and support each other ( CN attacked VN while US supported CN and sanction VN ).

When US or CN collapse, then No more alliance forces are strong enough to stop our expansion. But CN will collapse first cos US is just like Mongol empire now, she can easily destroy CN or Russia.

Just keep thinking like that if it make u happy.

Pls remind u that,CN-US Trade war is good for VN, many FDI companies shifting from CN to VN and make VN growth more than 7%. US or CN collapse is even better for VN cos no more alliance forces can stop VN expansion like in 1979:cool:
