China to fund railway project in the Philippines

During President Xi Jinping's visit to the Philippines, the two countries' leaders will witness the signing of a deal on a 600-kilometers railway project. After completion, the train will take passengers from the capital Manila to Matnog in Sorsogon province, stopping at nine major stations along the way. It will also cut down travel time between Manila and the port city of Legazpi down to less than five hours, enhancing connectivity between the Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions. (CGTN, 2018-11-20)

China plays its part in Filipino infrastructure project — CGTN 2018-11-20

In 2017, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte launched the "Build, Build, Build" strategy. As part of the massive infrastructure, leaders from China and the Philippines are set to sign a deal on a 600-kilometer-long railway project, which will run from Manila to Matnog in Sorsogon.

The Philippine government plans to spend around 180 billion U.S. dollars on over 75 flagship projects till 2022. China's Belt and Road too is playing its part. In 2016, during Duterte's visit to Beijing, China and the Philippines signed deals worth 24 billion U.S. dollars. Chinese companies are currently building bridges, undertaking construction of dams and irrigation projects, and are also involved in building railway lines to boost connectivity.

This railway is decades-long dream finally come true for the people of Philippines, so upon completion it'll be really monumental for the life of people there. I feel happy too for them for I know very well what one feels about the limited or inferior transportation infrastructure.

I am firmly opposed to infrastructure support for the Philippines.
The Philippines has occupied nine islands of China in the South China Sea .
I know that this is not the responsibility of Duterte and the current Philippine government, but the countries that occupy China's territory are not worthy of China's trust and help.
This country is not worthy of China’s trust and help.

Biggest infrastructure project ever in my country! :yahoo:
I don't hate the Philippines, but the Philippines has just liberated from the US occupation and invaded immediately China's South China Sea islands. This is immoral and illegal. The Chinese government is too weak to defend its territory.

The 1898 "United States-Spain Treaty", the 1900 "United States-Spain Washington Treaty", and the 1930 "America-UK Treaty" clearly stipulate the western boundary of the Philippine Territory. The Philippine territory does not contain the 9 occupied South China Sea Islands.
