China to finance Iran Pakistan gas pipeline

Yes, I got it but the question is, if there is a direct pipeline from Turkmenistan to China and Turkmenistan and Iran are connected by pipeline, then why Chinese are looking for another pipelines through mighty Karakorum mountains, seems more like wastage of money.

We have already got the "Turkmenistan-China Gas Pipeline", and the "Kazakhstan-China Oil Pipeline" running alongside each other... which will allow us to get all the resources we need from Central Asia.

The land link from Pakistan to China though, is a much bigger deal. Why?

Because Gwadar port is situated right at the mouth of the Persian gulf, where much of the world's oil comes from. This allows us to bypass the sea-route (which is long and risky) for a very quick method over land. This works not just for oil, but also for products that we import and export via both pipelines and rail links.

Things are happening so fast in central Asian theater that head spinning in south block going out of control. Needless to say India just got excited on US east Asia China containment plot and very much dedicated in inciting military opposition against China through some sort of pact with different (Vietnam, Thailand) countries. Or at least that is Indian hope. But once again india riding on US shoulder gone in wrong direction. Veteran Indian diplomat and now columnist/blogger M K Bhadrakumar indicated such Indian shortsightedness. It would be interesting to see if and how india take 180 degree turn, in which they are expert and US is aware of. And what US would do to keep india in line?

There is no doubt US and (and perhaps india) will be on the case with new plan to scuttle this IP pipeline.

Fair point, but why would China need another pipeline from Iran thru Pakistan to make use of the land link thru Karakoram?

For that you are making railway lines and gas pipelines can't be used to transport oil. When China can get gas directly from Iran through central Asian pipelines, why is it wasting money for another pipeline in mightly Karakorum mountains.

Well that would make it much easier right? Iran is right next to Pakistan, via a land border.

Iran is not connected to the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline through Central Asia.

If we want to get oil from Central Asia, we use this pipeline:

Kazakhstan–China oil pipeline - Wikipedia

Which runs alongside the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline (which also travels through Kazakhstan).

Central Asia is land-locked though, they don't have any sea ports. That is why Gwadar port in Pakistan is so important to us. The only way for us to get direct access to the warm waters of the Arabian sea, is with the help of our ally Pakistan.

The reason is a bit too obvious ... Because of the massive demand , there isn't enough supply

the finance is all great.

China needs gas closer to Russia and not in areas bordering Pakistan as its most developed regions are close to sea and closer to Russia.

good to know. hope Chinese finance more development projects in Pakistan so as to decrease pakistan's reliance on US.
