In less than a month Palestine will present a bid to the United Nations for statehood recognition. Many countries have already given their support to Palestine for statehood. China is the latest nation that has publicly supported the bid for Palestine. Among those nations are Norway, Spain, and Russia. If Palestine does indeed get recognition for statehood then it would significantly lower whatever leverage Israel does have in peace talks. Both Israel and the United States do not support the idea that Palestine bid for statehood unilaterally, rather they would have Palestine achieve statehood via agreement with Israel.

China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday that Wu Sike, its special envoy on the Middle East, told Palestinian leaders in a meeting in Ramallah that Beijing and the Chinese people have always supported the Palestinian cause.

It is about time the Palestinian people recieve statehood. I'd be hardpressed to find in history, a more tortured people in need of statehood on its own terms.

I'm not too aware of this issue, can anyone tell me (in general terms) what are the positives and the negatives aspects of this move?
