LONDON -- A wealthy Chinese consortium plans to complete a takeover of English Premier League club Aston Villa immediately after the FA Cup final, local media reported on Monday.

Tim Sherwood's side stunned Liverpool on Sunday to set up a showdown against Arsenalon May 30 in FA Cup final. The group have also held talks with neighboring West Brom asa back-up plan as the move for Villa would depend on them avoiding relegation, according to reports from English daily Mirror.

Mirror said the consortium already have representatives in England and are doing due diligence ahead of completing a Villa deal in early June.

They have been at the training ground and toured the club as want away owner Randy Lerner is willing to sell for around 150 million pounds (225 million dollars).

Four miles away, Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace has also put his club up for sale - and the same Chinese group are interested in Albion as an alternative.

Peace, who has shown the group around their stadium and facilities, is holding out for upwards of 100 million pounds (149 million dollars).

The takeover for Villa is part of Chinese investers' purchase of sports industry worldwide.

A Chinese company has launched a crowd funding initiative to raise at least one billion euros (about 1.08 billion US dollars) to buy renowned Italian soccer club AC Milan, according to Fu Yixiang, vice president of the Italy-China Chamber of Commerce.

Fu said on April 8 that five companies have been linked to a possible takeover of the club.

Four are based in China -- beverage maker Wahaha, real estate developer Wanda, telecommunications giants Huawei and e-commerce magnate Alibaba, and the other interested is a Thai company, Fu said.

Chinese company is also in a deal to buy historic French club FC Sochaux, which could becompleted in May.

Tech Pro Technology Development company, a Hong Kong-listed electrical components manufacturer, would pay seven million euros for the 87-year-old club. The deal could befinalized in May, according to Agence France-Presse.

Earlier this month, Wanda Group became the official owner of 20% stake in Spanish LaLiga champions Atletico Madrid. In February, Wanda acquired Swiss sports marketingcompany Infront Sports & Media in a deal valued at about 1.05 billion euros.

In January, China's United Vansen International Sports Corporation made it public that they had almost finished the purchase of Dutch club Alles Door Oefening Den Haag.

Impressive!!

According to Premier League rules, two clubs can't have the same owner. It's possibly one is the primary target and the other is the back-up. Aston Villa is probably their preferred choice followed by West Brom. Aston Villa is a much bigger club than West Brom and the extra $75 million is well justified for a club that has a lot of prestige and heritage along with some great fans unlike the $hit team from Manchester or Rent Boys from London.

Seriously what is the point of buying these sports team and pay the big bucks to arrogant players? Is it going to make Chinese players better? I think not.

What's the point of buying these?

Just the fact that they own them is satisfaction enough. Second, they can start marketing Chinese brands during games, it comes with the 'perks' of owning said teams in the big leagues.

Well, think about it this way, China can start training / forming its home teams to the level of the Europeans. Who knows, maybe even get some high profile players to play for Chinese home teams. Pull a NY Yankees style of recruitment. lol.

The intention is likely to be entirely profit-driven. It is no more different from buying a tech company.

To be honest China doesn't need to buy our football clubs in other to improve their national team/league. Lool they can just hire our football officials, coaches etc so we can train them and make them more professional. Even so they need to nurture their youths talent from a very early age if they want to ever stand a chance of catching up with Europe in football, s.Korea and Japan can be models for China to follow. They also need to reduce corruption in their football teams, heard there's a lot of corruption there.
So buying few european clubs won't help them 1 bit in changing their national team if that's what they are indeed buying it for. If that was the car then Qatar and other gulf countries will have the best league/teams in the world since they have bought several European teams long ago. Lol

The purpose is not to improve China's football clubs.

The purpose is to make money. These are private investors and China's national team should be their last concern.

A football team is a huge system, from advertisement to team jersey. So, if managed well, one can make good money.

The point is not to change the national team. Even a stupid monkey knows that to improve your team, you buy players, not clubs.

So, do not put words on peoples' mouths.

True, sometimes it's just for the cash. If it's for football, the club one should be looking at is not Villa or Milan.
