China, S. Korea, Japan meet in Seoul for FTA talks

Top negotiators from China, South Korea, and Japan met in Seoul Tuesday to continue talks on a trilateral free trade agreement, marking the seventh round of talks on the proposed trade deal.

The two-day meeting focused on the best ways to achieve market liberalization. The three countries anticipated that a trilateral agreement would bring mutual benefits to the region.

"An ‪#‎FTA‬ among three countries will serve as an important vehicle that would strengthen our existing relations not only by expanding trade and investment among us, but also by providing a comprehensive and institutional framework," said China’s Vice Commerce Minister, Wang Shouwen.

China, South Korea, and Japan reached an agreement to hold FTA negotiations at the ASEAN Summit in 2012. The first round of talks was held in March 2013, in Seoul.

Since the beginning of the negotiations, the three countries discussed issues including goods, services, investment, customs, trade remedies, intellectual property rights, and e-commerce.

Currently, the combined GDP of the three countries reached about $15 trillion, accounting for 20% of the world's total and 90% of Asia's total. But at the same time, the trade volume among the three countries accounts for less than 20% of their total trade.

Threads like these always make my heart jump in joy, rather than the ones where there is so much hostility between the three brothers.

Alas, brotherly competition, eh?

;)

$15 Trillion , that is, indeed, huge.

You know, brotherly cooperation is fine as long as it remains between brothers. Inviting unwanted outsiders to the bloc is a no-no :) No conspiracy with outsiders. Granted, whoever comes as a rescuer to support one against the other(s) is doing this to the best of their interests, not even to the interest of the alleged ally or partner.

I guess the three brothers are strong, confident and secure enough to settle their issues and compete fairly among each other.
