China processes 111,300 fake or low-quality goods cases

TOKYO, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- China reported 111,300 cases involving fake or low-quality products in 2011, with the goods generating about CNY 5.5 billion (USD 846 million), according to state-run Xinhua News Agency.

The authorities transferred 1,190 cases to the police, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

There was an increase in the average amount involved per case, from CNY 37, 100 (USD 5,900) in 2010 to CNY 53,500 (USD 8,500) in 2011, the quality watchdog said, adding that nearly half of the cases related to food, building materials and agricultural production.

Chinese authorities said last Friday that the country will intensify its efforts to crack down on fake and shoddy goods in rural markets during the first quarter of this year.

Counterfeit consumer products and producer goods which are closely related to farmers' lives, including home appliances and fertilizers, are the targets of the crackdown, according to a circular jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and offices carried by Xinhua.

This is only the number of cases that they themselves recognize the hundred billions of dollars of fake/imitation/low quality they dump is above it.
