But by denying him freedom of movement, I think Chinese government is just reinforcing his point that the Chinese Government is authoritarian and does not tolerate dissent. This for most observers who wouldn't have noticed an old man spouting religious mumbo jumbo seems very unfair. These actions generate far more suspicion and ill will towards China than the Dalai Lama could have ever had done by himself.
