Relations between China and India are expected to deteriorate with frequent border crises despite both sides claiming to seek de-escalation on recent clashes, former diplomats and academics said.

Beijing and New Delhi have blamed each other for the clash on Monday, which killed at least 20 Indian soldiers along the disputed Himalayan border running along the Ladakh area of Kashmir. A People’s Liberation Army (PLA) spokesman said the incident led to casualties on both sides but Beijing has been silent on the scale of its losses.

The incident, which began with clashes between soldiers at the Galwan River valley in early May, has pushed ties between the two Asian giants to a new low as this marks the first fatality since 1975, and the most serious clash since the war in 1962.

While Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said he and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar were “committed to solving our differences through dialogue” after the first high-level exchange following the incident on Wednesday, much remains unresolved.

Despite both sides committing to disengage on the Himalayan terrain, India’s official statement on the call quoted Jaishankar warning of “serious repercussions” on India’s relationship with China.

Sino-India relations have been historically volatile. Disputes on sovereignty along the 3,500km (2,200 mile) border identified by the “Line of Actual Control” have always been flashpoints.

As I said earlier :

arrest of indian high ranking officials proves that this again was a big disaster for india even though there might be some casualties for PLA, but then again, indian govt denies it, when there is so much cover up and dishonesty, we wouldnt ever know the truth of the matter.

It will improve and get better in the future on the contrary...

India got a rude awakening, now knowing well that China is the boss and the master here and India doesn't have the wherewithal to compete or challenge China, so accepting India's position as a 'nobody' and playing a second fiddle to China and Bootlicking(which India is adept to powerful) will help the situation improve tremendously.

The problem was arising because of India thinking of being equal to China...now India cut to size and Modi saying no territory is occupied by China and changing the aggressive posture will result in Change of attitude by China.

And Modi/India apologizing to China will help too.

I have already explained in other threads.. Yaar!

Here is that Modi us just different compare to past leaders in India.
China already used to take advantage of their weakness. Now it is happing because of only three reasons:
1. China has already developed infstructure and almost reached to near undefined border.
2. India is now developing the infrastructure near the Chinese borders.
3. Previously, Indian governments never wanted to military tension with china and not done any much to secure borders. Chinese army were also used to cross borders without much protects but after Modi, its changed.

I take this a positive actions for Indians from Modi. Some day and some time, we suppose to do and I m glad that we started doing now..
