Spend money on border security force. They have tough job to do in coming days.

The vessel names ‘Omar Faruk’ and ‘Abu Ubaidah’ are named after,

1. ʻUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (Al Faruq) RA (the 2nd Rashidun Caliph) and

2. Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah, who was a commander of the Rashidun Army during the time of Caliph Umar RA

Both are among a group of ten Sahaba who were promised eternal paradise by the Prophet (SAW) himself.

How old are these things ?

January 1998 and December 1999, so about twenty years. But the re-fit and refurbishments of sensors and weapons (with recent vintage equipment) make these formidably up-to-date.

I'd guess as good or better than our lead naval vessel BNS Bangabandhu class.

@Ronin bhai and @Quwa bhai would I be way off the mark on this?

Hard to believe that the Pakistan Navy F22P Zulfiquar class is a modernized version of this same vessel.

More details on the PLAN pennant numbers 522 and 523 here,

Decommissioned Type 053 frigate most liekly 533 and 534

Former PLAN pennant numbers were 522 and 523 AFAIK.

In my opinion they are pretty much the same. Both types of ships have the FM-90N SAM system and the anti-ship missiles seem to be of equivalent capability. There is a chance that the Western electronics may be superior to that on the Chinese vessels.
All 3 vessels should serve BN well up to around 2030 when they can be retired as the 8 next-gen frigates hopefully should all be in service by then.

Among many others, BGB will be given 12 APCs for their easy movement along the border. I am not a military expert, but I think the APCs is a needed element to watch over the mountainous BD border terrain with Burma.
