The thing with Chinese dissidents is that (1) they are not supported by the general republic, (2) they deliberately break a law (knowing fully well the consequences) and yet they act hurt and ask for pity, and (3) they use that to get attention.
Well first of all, if a dissident doesn't want to be detained, then don't f*king break the law!
Second of all, if a dissident still insists on breaking that law, then don't complain when the consequences come!
Third of all, no, the public and media does NOT pity these dissidents, because they are the ones that instigated the thing and brought the consequences onto themselves.
Western media also has no power when it comes to this because one country cannot force another country to change their laws. Each country has specific laws for a reason. I'm pretty sure China does not agree with Canadian NDP's gender-choosing law, but did China launch a media campaign against that? NO!
In fact, what would have happened to Liu Xiaobo or Ai Weiwei they had lived normal lives as ordinary citizens and not challenged to break laws? NOTHING!
