Tripura governor Tathagata Roy on Tuesday said dams built by China upstream of Brahmaputra and other rivers will hit Bangladesh harder than India.

He also took a swipe at West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for her opposition to sharing the Teesta river water with Bangladesh.

Roy was speaking at the 8th India-Bangladesh Friendship Dialogue where a Guwahati Declaration was announced for greater cooperation between the two countries in security, communication and trade.

“China building a series of dams on Yarlung Zangbo (upstream of Brahmaputra) and working on river diversion are serious issues that will affect Bangladesh the most. India does not divert water and there are no barrages on Brahmaputra,” Roy said.

Bangladeshis, please dont participate on indian al-cowda post.
That VHP terrorist has opened this thread with the clear intention to create a wedge between Chinese and Bangladeshi members here. But his intension will fail spectacularly. No sane Bangladeshi member will say anything negative about China.Chinese dam will not dry Brahmaputra. Most of the river catchment are in India and Bangladesh.80 percent surface runoff of Brahmaputra river comes from indian north east and Bangladesh. So we are not worried about Chinese dam and it will not create any bad feeling between China and Bangladesh.I urge all other Bangladeshi members here to convey the massage of friendship and love to our Chinese brothers.

Ok then. Bangladesh shouldnt have any concerns if we divert some 20% of Brahmaputra water. Southern India do face droughts often.

Thank you Bangladeshi :D

Certainly, it will be a cause of concern for us if India diverts any more water from the common rivers including Brahmaputra. China needs water to its middle zone to develop agriculture. But, in any case it will not be able to take all the water in the north of the Himalaya.

Chinese water diversions won't affect Bangladesh as per the Bangladeshis, so we must not compensate for whatever water China diverts, let Bangladesh take the entire hit.

Thanks for confirmation we will only provide the quantum water that comes from china and water from Indian catchment area will be restricted to India. Very generous of BD ppl.

Mamata didi was actually right on Teesta issue irrespective of Bangladesh's stand on Chinese probable water diversions.

I wonder if Hasina thinks the same. But Bangladeshi jamatis will force her to do just the opposite due their open animosity towards India and their link with China and Pakistan.

Let's have a tripartite commission from Bangladesh, China, and India for the management of all the rivers in the Ganges-Brahmaputra delta.

Hasina is looking after her country's interest, we should look after ours.

All rivers? You mean coming from China? Even then China won't agree to any discussion or negotiation on what they claim theirs...They are not India.
