Officials of the Bangladeshi Navy received two Chinese Type-053H3 frigates – Jiaxing and Lianyungang. The official handover ceremony happened in Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard on December 18. Bangladesh purchased the missile frigates in 2018. On December 23, the frigates strated moving to Bangladesh. It’s expected that they will reach Bangladesh in January 2020.

Type-053H3 frigates have a length of 112m and a displacement of 2,250 tons (standard). A total of 10 Type-053H3 frigates were built for the Chinese Navy in the period from 2005 to 2010. The frigates received by Bangladesh are armed with C-801 surface-launched subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles and HQ-7 short-range air defense missiles.

This is not the first time when Bangladesh buys warships that served with the Chinese Navy. In 2013, the Bangladeshi Navy bought two Type 053H2G frigates.

Meanwhile, reports appeared that the Pakistani Armed Forces will buy 236 SH-15 155 mm self-propelled howitzers from China. The contact worth of $512 million was reportedly signed in June 2019. The deal includes training and maintenance services.

These develpments signs the growing Chinese military technical cooperation with Pakistan and Bangladesh. If this cooperation develops and expands even further, the close cooperation of Pakistan, Bangladesh and China could drastically change the balance of power in the region and undermine the positions of India.

Ah yes China is just beginning to boost defence partnership with poor old Pakistan whereas Bangladesh has been at it for decades and yes Brave Hasina will undermine the position of India

China needs to be careful, the Bengali people are liars, and simply cannot be trusted with your secrets.

What’s your problem?

From post#4 this thread is being derailed with the same old anti Bengali sh3t.

It gets old guys.

I would say a hell of a lot worse but the law is applied asymmetrically.

This article is actually a good thing from a strategic perspective.

Yet you simpletons give in to any opening for an anti Bengali comment.

Ridiculous.

What secrets those ships been around for a long time do you think capabilities are not known to the West? Our nationals may not know it but Western intelligences know much more then one thinks. Its old designs with few more gadgets added to it.

There is nothing secret in those ships.

That’s the whole point.

The comments made were lacking in substance and simply unprovoked anti-Bengali smears.

Yes as if the Chinese are not smart enough to have thought of this already.

BD can buy anything it wants from China, apart from nuclear weapons, SSBNs/SSNs, ballistic missiles, J-20 and some other highly classified systems.

No man.

Somebody alert Beijing.

This guy @Ali_Baba is a real intelligence asset for them.

Also, as Chinese weapons become more sophisticated there will be more restrictions on access.

I doubt Bangladesh will have access to the top tier.

A lot will depend on Bangladesh US relations as well.

Yes that top-tier only includes stuff like J-20 and some other highly classified stuff as I already mentioned.

There is a J-10CE export version and no reason BD cannot buy that as an example. It will not be exactly the same as the Chinese version of course.

It would make sense that BD has access to J-10CE as this was made to replace the J-7 in service.

So it wouldn’t be shocking if BD picks up a few.

China definitely has far more sophisticated things in the pipeline for them to even entertain exporting anything.

But again circumstances are changing.

China seems to be able to produce far more sophisticated and capable systems than in years past.

So export control may become an issue.

This is all conjecture on my part of course.

I would even say that China would export FC-31 export version when that is ready.

There is no sensible reason why a country like China would make an export specific version of a system and then not export it.
