China Auto Sales Growth Lags U.S. For First Time in 14 Years

can i drive in Beijing with other cities driven plate? coz i can do in Shanghai and any other Chinese cities.. if you can drive a non beijing plate in the city then it is very easy to buy a car from other cities and drive in beijing

yes,you can.but first you have to stop at a checking point located on every road when entering Beijing and get a temporary permit(进京许可证),and put it somewhere police can see through your windshield ,there is a time limit on how long the car can stay in Beijing.usually just a couple of days.

In India vehicles with private number plates(black letters on white background) can drive anywhere in India without permit.

Actually you can drive as a tourist - i.e., if you are on a road trip or passing through.

But if you live in a place other than the state of registration then you need to pay the road tax there.

So you are saying that the slowdown is because the Communist party of China is not allowing people to buy cars?:undecided:
You indian politicized the issue again!!! I don't know why are you so happy for this news? China lack of oil, and car make pollution. I support government confine the vehicle!!!

Actually many of my neighbours are from other states and they have their vehicles registered in their native states and not in Kerala..anyways I only posted what I know, may be you are correct.

Even indian cities are facing same problem, I live in pune a rapidly developing city.
But the pace of constructing roads infrastructure is slow compared to pace with which people are buying cars and motorcycles, resulting cities getting clogged and small traffic jams during rush hours.

@harpoon one is required to pay road tax to enter other states.

Many newspaper articles are saying that india should also bring such laws atleast until infrastructure is developed.

Blah Blah and a whole lot of brain fart...I was only commenting on how vehicle registration works in India..if your bigoted mind cannot grasp this its not my problem.

I think its only apply to commercial vehicles. To my knowledge one has to pay INR 50 for car and INR 400 for all other vehicles at Kerala-TN border for entering TN and its valid for 7 days. When you buy a private vehicle you already pays 15 years of road tax at the registration time itself.

I am of the reverse opinion. Govt has no right to bring in such laws until we have world class infrastructure with good public transportation system. In my experience its more commercially viable to use your 2 wheeler for commute than your local bus and not to mention the time saving.

Aren't people in Shanghai buying cars and registering with Kunshan, zhejiang or other city numbers?

Beijing control is definitely impacting the overall sale numbers but isn't only reason. Other cities have/ had such controls (to lesser extent) in place for years but auto sale was on rise.

Recent decision by China bank loan policies making business difficult for small/ medium industries and coupled with recession impacting Chinese people employment, income and buying power might be the real cause for this drop.

Asian cities should not encourage unlimited car ownership. Not may people in Tokyo drive. All my classmates own cars except for the one living in Tokyo. They have an excellent public transportation (Beijing/Shanghai/Shenzhen/Hongkong not bad either). In Singapore it takes a fortune to buy a car.

City of Kunming in Yunan province next to Vietnam set a very good example of promoting electrical vehicles. In order to limit air pollution they do not allow trucks or normal motorcycles into the city, only cars and electric scooters, and bicycles. Even Westners visiting Kunming are very impressed. Other Chinese cities should learn from it.

I am sorry, are all Chinese here saying that car purchase seal in Beijing has lead to such a drastic drop? I don't get it. No one else outside Beijing buys a car? I am sorry but I don't get it.

Road-Building Rage To Leave U.S. In Dust

The massive buildup of China’s highways will soon leave the U.S., the originator of the national highway system, in the dust.

This is not true, it was Germany that built the first nationwide Autobahn system.
