Freedom for Okinawa! :enjoy:
As a strategy, China should support the Independent Ryuku Kingdom movement if Japan persists on the illegal ownership of Diaoyutai.

The Ryuku Kingdom was indeed an independent nation until they were annexed by Meiji Japan before Taiwan. Hence for anti-China detractor to claim that Diaoyutai was a part of Japan historically is both hilarious and amazing.

Shenkaku was only named only after 1895, the same year Japan forcefully annexed Taiwan from Qing's China.

The PLA Air Force said on Sunday it had conducted a drill involving long-range operations over the Western Pacific, past the Miyako Strait, to test far-offshore combat and assault capabilities.

Shen Jinke, a spokesman for the air force, said regular drills in the Western Pacific and patrols over the East China Sea air defense identification zone were aimed at protecting China's sovereignty and national security.

According to a statement on the Ministry of National Defense's website, more than 40 aircraft including H-6K bombers, Su-30 fighters and aerial tankers of the People's Liberation Army completed exercises such as assaults on sea-surface targets and in-air refueling. The fleet also conducted a routine patrol in the East China Sea air defense identification zone, established in November 2013.

The Miyako Strait is a body of water between Japan's Miyako and Okinawa islands.

Zhao Xiaozhuo, a researcher at the Center on China-US Defense Relations at the PLA Academy of Military Science, said long-range drills in the Western Pacific are a standard practice to develop the air force's equipment.

"It's a normal defense exercise that will be conducted more and more, with our military becoming better equipped. It's a natural progression that we will be able to fly further and conduct drills on a wider range," he said. "The awakening of China's maritime rights consciousness has encouraged the country to expand its activities from coastal areas to far-offshore regions."

The PLA Air Force will continue to patrol the East China Sea air defense identification zone to uphold the legitimate rights and interests of China, and will keep conduct various training to improve its combat capacity, Shen added.

PLA Air force conducts drills, patrols in West Pacific, ADIZ
Source:Global Times Published: 2016/9/26 0:43:39

Dozens of warplanes have been sent to the West Pacific Ocean and China's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) for marine drills and regular patrols, a Chinese Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force official said on Sunday.

Air Force spokesperson Shen Jinke said the Chinese Air Force Sunday sent over 40 warplanes through the Mayako Strait for combat drills in the West Pacific, and fighters and bombers are regularly patrolling the country's ADIZ over the East China Sea, according to PLA Air Force's official Sina Weibo account.

"The regular West Pacific drills and ADIZ patrols are necessary to safeguard national sovereignty, the country's security and maintain peaceful development," Shen said.

The drills included surveillance, assault, and air refueling to test the air force's capabilities, according to Shen.

Aircraft like H-6K bombers, Su-30 fighters and tankers will regularly be flying over the Miyako Strait, an international waterway between Japan's Miyako Island and Okinawa Island.

The Chinese Air Force conducted its first flight over the strait in May 2015, reports said.

Shen said at a press conference on Thursday that the air force will "regularize" offshore drills beyond the First Island Chain. Since March 2015, PLA aircraft have flown beyond the chain five times to drill in the western Pacific Ocean.

He also said that aerial patrols in the South China Sea have become a "regular" practice to improve their combat readiness.

On Sept. 25, the China Air Force dispatched over 40 fighters of various types for blue water training in the West Pacific. Meanwhile, bombers and fighters conducted a routine patrol in the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), People’s Daily Online reported.

Military expert Wang Mingliang told People’s Daily Online that the scale of this blue water training was the biggest since China started offering public reports on such activities. In addition, the training took place only 12 days after the last training, which is the shortest dividing interval ever.

Shen Jinke, spokesperson of China Air Force, explained that over 40 fighters participated in the training, including Xi’an H-6K, Su-30 and refueling planes. The formation flew over the Miyako Strait and practiced exercises such as air defense early warning, sea assault and air refueling.

According to Shen, the training in the West Pacific and patrol of ADIZ are both necessary measures to defend state sovereignty and national security, and to safeguard China's peace and development.
