Chapel Hill shooter sentenced to life for killing 3 Muslim neighbours

Craig Hicks has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his Muslim American neighbours Deah, Yusor and Razan in their home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

North Carolina has capital punishment. I don't see why this case doesn't warrant the death penalty.
The victims weren't the only one threaten by this monster. There needs to be changed to the law, when a threat like brandishing a gun is made, a background check is immediately done, and the person is taken in for a psychiatric evaluation.

Also, the law needs to be changed such that tenants in a housing complex with this kind of hostile environment is present; the tenants can break their lease immediately without penalty. Enough tenants leaving a complex, the business owners will put pressure on the police and politicians to not tolerate this kind of behavior.

This story and the New Zealand massacre are the reason why people are legally arming themselves. This is also why racial and religious minorities pull inward, and tend to cluster together.

I agree, Every case should be/is evaluated on its merit (to the best of the jury's ability), but because North Carolina has the death penalty, but I did understand what aspect limited the jury from being allowed to decide this case warranted the death penalty. If the factor is mental health, then mandatory screenings for people that make threats like he did, could have prevented this tragedy, and hence the laws need to be changed, so this doesn't happen again. If life without the possibility of parole is the maximum that the jury could have imposed, then I'm satisfied they rendered the maximum penalty allowed under the law.

As to your second point, I think your reading something into what I said that wasn't there. I didn't say, immigrants but religious or ethnic minorities. The Irish, The Italians, The Poles; 3 Catholic populations, The Japanese, The Chinese, The Cubans, etc. etc. clustered together when they first came here. As society welcomed them into the mainstream, they assimilated with the rest, increasingly so with each passing generation. My point was that all people want to feel safe, and cohabit where they feel welcome.

Old people; the immigrants from many of these communities, still live in the "old neighborhood",. while there kids and grand kids feel at ease moving where they can make the best life for themselves.
