আসন্ন কোরবানি ঈদকে কেন্দ্র করে বাংলাদেশে ভারতীয় গরু চোরাচালানের সংখ্যা বেড়েছে। ভারতের সীমান্তরক্ষী বাহিনী (বিএসএফ) চোরাচালান ঠেকাতে নানা পদক্ষেপ নিলেও চোরাকারবারীরা নিয়েছে ভয়ঙ্কর অভিনব এক কৌশল। সীমান্ত পার করতে তারা গরুর গলায় হাতে তৈরি বোমা বেঁধে দিচ্ছে।
ভারতীয় সংবাদমাধ্যমগুলোর প্রতিবেদনে জানানো হয়েছে, দেশটির সীমান্তরক্ষী বাহিনী (বিএসএফ) গত বৃহস্পতিবার পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সীমান্তের এক নদী থেকে গলায় বিস্ফোরক বাঁধা একটি গরু উদ্ধার করে। বিএসএফ বলছে, এসব গরু বাংলাদেশে পাচার করা হচ্ছিল।
ভারতের সীমান্তরক্ষী বাহিনীর দাবি, নিরাপত্তারক্ষীদের ফাঁকি দিতে মারাত্মক এই কৌশল অবলম্বন করছে চোরাকারবারীরা। পাচারে যাতে বাঁধা না দেয়া হয় সেজন্য গরুর গলায় বিস্ফোরক বাঁধা হচ্ছে। এনডিটিভি, টাইমস অব ইন্ডিয়া, ইন্ডিয়া ট্যুডে, টেলিগ্রাফসহ ভারতের শীর্ষস্থানীয় সংবাদমাধ্যম এই খবর জানিয়েছে।
বিএসএফ কর্মকর্তারা বলছেন, প্রথমবারের মতো এমন নিষ্ঠুর ও ভয়ঙ্কর কৌশলে গরু চোরাচালান করা হচ্ছে। গরুর গলায় আইইডি (ইম্প্রোভাইজড এক্সপ্লোসিভ ডিভাইস) বা হাতে তৈরি বোমা-গ্রেনেড বেঁধে রাখা হয়েছে। গরুগুলোকে আটক করলে বিস্ফোরণের মাধ্যমে নিরাপত্তারক্ষীদের হতাহত করাই এর মূল উদ্দেশ্য।
টেলিগ্রাফ প্রত্রিকার এক অনলাইন প্রতিবেদনে একটি ছবি প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে। ছবিতে দেখা যাচ্ছে, নদীতে ভাসমান একটি গরুর গলায় অ্যালুমিনিয়াম কৌটোয় হাতে তৈরি বোমা বেঁধে রাখা হয়েছে। গরুটি পশ্চিমবঙ্গের হারুডাঙা সীমান্ত থেকে উদ্ধার করা হয়।
এনডিটিভি জানিয়েছে, কলা গাছ ও দড়ির সাহায্যে বেঁধে গরুগুলোকে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মালদা, মুর্শিদাবাদ, উত্তর চব্বিশ পরগনা ও নদিয়ার বিভিন্ন নদীতে ভাসিয়ে দেয়া হয়। গত দুদিনে সীমান্তে ৩৬৫টি গবাদি পশু আটক করা হয়েছে আর দুই সপ্তাহে সেই সংখ্যা প্রায় দুই হাজারের বেশি।

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday has tracked down cows with improvised explosive devices (IED) tied around their necks aimed at targeting troops who try to stop the menace of cattle smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border.
Cows, with IED inside a small aluminium canister tied around their neck, were recovered from the river near the Harudanga border post along the south Bengal frontier, BSF officials said.
They said this is the first time they have come across this cruel method that can potentially lead to fatal injuries to both the cattle and force personnel, in case the crude bomb is triggered during handling.
After being tied with banana trunks and ropes, the cattle were dropped in monsoon-water laden rivers from Malda, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts, officials said.
"We are studying the type of IED prepared by the smugglers that is aimed to scare BSF troops from intercepting cattle smuggling incidents. A total of 365 cattle being smuggled across the border to Bangladesh have been recovered since Wednesday," BSF said.
A sudden rise in "floating cattle" instances in West Bengal has prompted the BSF to deploy additional troops, motorboats and surveillance gadgets to curb the crime.
Over 1,500 cows and buffaloes have been seized in over two weeks' time at this border area by the force, they said.
The desperation of the smugglers to commit the crime has increased even as the cost per cattle head has gone upto Rs 1.4 lakh, from the earlier Rs 80,000, in anticipation of the Bakrid festivities in August.
