As the news says, PAF's requirements are for a jet with afterburners.Why not Mushauk or K-8, They cannot be upgraded? There is no need to by a new jet.

K-8 configuration layout is not for beyond mach 1 speed... Therefor not suitable for LIFT.why not further develop K8 for LIFT then?
