This is very arbitrary and useless. As I said, 4.5G requires one to have an AESA radar and other advanced electronics. IRBIS-E is more of a hybrid between AESA and PESA so it can be disputed. Secondly LCA doesn't fare much badly compared to F-16 except its smaller and therefore less range-payload. None of this precludes LCA from being classified a 4th generation fighter.

With IAF Retiring 54 aircrafts + 4 crashes this year while only 18 Su30 MKI are being inducted this year, and another 18 by 2017
when another batch of 3 sqds or 60 aircraft will be retired.

So we could be looking at a drop of 4 sqds in 2 years time,
Hence I won't be surprised if IAF decides to Borrow 40 odd Mirages from France, till they get the 36 Rafale in service
