Maybe I'm mistaken, but haven't you claimed to be working as a journalist? Apologies if that's not true, but anyway this ought to be common knowledge:

Newspapers don't always go capturing every image they print. They almost always get it from a news agency, or a freelance photographer, or similar third party sources. In this case the image is from the AFP, one of the most widely used sources for news and images alike. So no compliments for your newspaper for the picture, but credit to them for publishing it.
