Brazilian President accused of ‘encouraging’ Amazon burning
The President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro is being accused of introducing policies that have encouraged illegal burning in the Amazon to create farmland. The world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon, is burning at a record rate and has seen nearly 10,000 fires in the last week. The Brazilian military is now fighting thousands of fires whilst international help is on the way to further contain the spread. Image: AP

i hate it how environmental policies are being gutted in several large countries like the US and Brazil.
what do you think?

This is hardly a topic on world agenda. Perhaps a condemnation or a mention here and there, but it doesn't get the full attention as it deserves.

Everything is up for sale. Eveything is commercialized. Eveything is seen through the lens of money. Even the lungs of our planet which the Amazon region is.

There's talk of helping Brazil out, but i doubt the Brazilians are going to accept it.

Somehow we've got to change the economic variables for Brazil,
but i doubt there's the political will to make that happen either.

climate policies world-wide are a total mess at the moment.

and i don't think we'll meet the goals of the Paris climate accords either this way. :(

The Brazilian president doesn't believe there is an emergency situation at the Amazon.

You can forget climate change.

Despite there are still a lot things that Brazil can develop to boast the economy...

But because of human resources limitation, Brazil economy is hitting the roof.

The only solution for economy growth with certain limit on human resources, it's to open more land by burning the forest.

More likely...

@8888888888888 ... that's so messed up...
in fact, the whole way we humans treat eachother, the other species on the planet (farm animals, labrats), and now the amazon too, it's all asking for the kind of trouble that might well one day be the end of our so-called civilization.

What is so messed up is your selective outrage.

Amazon does not belong to you. Keep your occupational hands off it.

amazon belongs to all life on the planet.

and while we're not regrowing forests successfully yet, it would be very unwise to go burning the 'lungs of the earth' for farmland.

and hey, didn't you grow up enjoying all the benefits of western society? and now you're preaching against those who gave you those signficant perks?

Latest, more sane reply from the Brazillian government : we'll accept the money but we spend it the way we see fit.

First, stop your BS propaganda. Brazilian government is not encouraging the burning down of their Amazon forest. These are fires that occur every year and are incomparable to forest fires elsewhere including Europe.

The Amazon does not belong to the West. This is not Iraq or Afghanistan. The region belongs to Brazil.

Exposing your lies doesn't equal to preaching against Western perks. A lot of of Dutch people aren't buying your BS. The Dutch also support more forest and trees in their country instead of money going to Brazil. You belong to a minority of brainwashed people.

LOL that is actually a slap in your face. You give them money for Amazon and they might spend it elsewhere.

i'm done talking with you, mr.

you're a moron who just wants westerners to admit they're as lame as you think they are,
and someone who wants to use western platforms to spread anti-western messages.

i've seen it before, and your always simmering hatred against the west,
prevents us from having any kind of discussion that goes beyond name calling.

You are crazy conspiracy theorist. No one believes your deluded BS. Get out of here.

you can't prevent me from expressing my opinion on this forum, like i won't even attempt you from expressing yours.

and if you keep up these baseless namecalling attacks against me, i'll see what the moderators do about that, sooner rather than later.
