LAHORE: Brazil’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alfredo Leoni, on Friday pledged all-out support to Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and discussed the possibility of hosting training programmes for the country’s players and coaches.

Leoni discussed various issues regarding the game with PFF President Faisal Saleh Hayat, the most significant of which was the offer by the ambassador to host Pakistani coaches for a training stint to impart them with the finer points of the modern-day game.

“Football is a popular sport in Pakistan which has made significant improvement at international level in recent years and we are ready to extend technical support to further develop it here,” said Leoni after the meeting.

Hayat thanked the Brazilian ambassador for his support and termed it a big boost for the game in Pakistan.

If Pakistan should learn soccer, then it should be from a country who has one the best soccer teams in the world: Brazil

Shehzad to attend football course in Brazil

KARACHI: Pakistan’s License A coach Shehzad Anwer will attend the football coaching course which will run from May 23 to 27 in Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Shehzad, who belongs to Sargodha, has been sponsored by the Brazilian embassy in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Faisal Saleh Hayat has also extended his gratitude to the Brazilian amabassador to Pakistan Alfredo Leoni during a meeting with him in Lahore on Friday. Former Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira will also deliver a lecture during the five-day training course which will be attended by the head coaches from 27 nations of the world.

“Everyone who knows little bit about football will have the desire to visit Brazil and meet its footballers. It was a dream come true, and I am very happy with the move,” Shehzad Anwar, who acted as a head coach of Pakistan during a friendly game against Malaysia in 2008, told ‘The News’ on Friday.

“I have got the visa and will leave for Brazil on May 20,” he said.

Shehzad has been associated with the coaching department of Pakistan for the last few years. After delivering his services at junior level, he has been working with the national team since 2008. Shehzad also served as assistant to the Austrian coach George Kottan during the 2009 Prime Minister Cup in Nepal, AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers in Sri Lanka, SAFF Championship in Dhaka and the friendly tours to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thailand and Qatar. He has also acted as instructor during the futsal course in Malaysia last year and AFC License B course in Lahore also last year.

After giving some rest, Shehzad has again been inserted into the support staff of the national team which will start its preparation for the Palestine tour and World Cup 2014 qualifiers on May 6 at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore.

This is good news. Brazil is well endowed with talented soccer players, who can provide sound guidance to upcoming players in Pakistan. And help to improve the standards.
IMO, it will help to create a very positive atmosphere for youth in Pakistan.

a question i wondered is how india/pakistan could qualify for the football WC?

it would be good if both nations could get a team in the WC, a new rivalry would be fun.

between india/pak they have 1.5 billion +, i think its a little sad that there is not even a semi competitive football team.

:woot:

Thanks brazil  But we need to do more

Being a soccer fan I think its up to us. Just look at England, France, etc. Look at their average attendance in league matches. Players and Academy need a lot of attention from the community. If we are able to do this we will definitely improve
