Boost military to take on China: Australian adviser

I do hope Aussies go ahead and build up a massive military, so we could have more opportunities to sell weapons to Indonesians and other Southeast Asians to deter potential Australian aggression.

Military men ask for more money for the military. What else is new?

These are the views of the right-wing hardliners. Also 'The Australian' is part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. (owner of Faux News).

Ordinary Australian people are very friendly towards Asians. Asians are fully integrated into Australian society.

Give it a rest. Australians know who's keeping their economy afloat. One nut case doesn't prove anything.

In that case the nutcase would be Kevin Rudd, since he said in a Wikileaks article that he would use force against China if it didn't assimilate into the global community.

And when a nutcase runs the government, it's no longer a thing that we can give a rest about.

It's no like he's asking for more of what they already have. Nuclear submarine are strategic offensive weapons, and quite honestly does no fit with Australia's status as a middle power and will likely be taken noticed by Indonesia, the other middle power in the region.

All of those talks are amid a major ongoing policy debate in Australia about further strategic direction the country's going to take. If Australia does go ahead with the policy shift to build up a massive military with nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers (which is also being debated), it will change the strategic landscape in the region and may present China with an opportunity to forge closer military relationship with some of Australia's neighbors.

Rudd was just telling Hillary what she wanted to hear.

He was the most pro-China leader Australia has ever had. He studied in China, speaks fluent Mandarin, and his son-in-law is ethnic Chinese.

Rudd wanted to make learning Chinese compulsary in Australian schools.

This is not how leaders are supposed to act. This isn't the times of the Pharaoh anymore.

This depends on if it is a nuclear attack submarine or a SSBM. One is a purely defensive capability the other (SSBM) is a purely offensive capability. I'll admit that a procurement of offensive capabilities is more like to alarm IND and SEA than China.

I'm glad you mentioned Kevin Rudd.
