Body talk: ‘Every fourth person in Pakistan is obese’

I have been lifting weight for a few years; but I always end up injuring my lower back so I have to stop it periodically ! :(

Now a days I am more into push ups (single arm, diamond, plyometric - when I can do them) and sprinting - They're actually working out better than I anticipated....I feel more quick on my feet and lighter now than I used to when I was lifting weights a few months ago ! :)

But if you're really into proper strength training; I recommend you check out Stronglifts 5 x 5 program...on stronglifts website - All compound functional exercises...all will build strength and best of all you'd look great and not like those Captain Upper Bodies who look like as if they've got bosoms that'll give any lady a run for her money due to far too many chest exercises, have biceps the size of small water melons and yet legs that would look out of place on a lady let alone a man with that much of a bloated upper body. Funnily enough many of these huge bicep....puffed chest guys are remarkably weak - Their deadlift, bench press, barbell rows or overhead press numbers are sometimes laughable !

Yeah I've seen 5x5 but it really doesn't give me the sort of fatigue I need, I was doing Jim Stapponi's Shortcut to Size recently and right now I'm doing a HIIT routine with a 5x15 rep scheme.

Pakistanis tend to store fat in our bellies, which is perhaps the worst. Some people genetically store more fat around arms, thighs and buttocks. South Asian have really bad genetics when it comes to storing fat. And obviously our diet is horrific to say the least. Seriously Pakistani foods should only be eaten on special occasions, but we eat for every single day, at least 3 times a day lol.

Actually thats incorrect. Fat stored around the waist is the best way to be. It is the easiest to carry around by design and slows people down the least. Ancient humans relied upon this "belt" of fat for the months when food was scarce. Fat around the arms, thighs and buttocks wouldve slowed down the ancient humans (more tiring) and thus decreased survival chances.

Then again, for these Uncles and Aunties, its not exactly a belt. It the whole damn belly which defeats the purpose entirely. If only they stop being so chawal when it comes to food. I've also noticed a correlation between corrupt Pakistanis and the size of their bellies. Just have a look at these Aloo Teendas and you will understand who is living a lavish and chawal lifestyle on the back of the masses.

I squat close to half my body weight, your crazy dependence on squats is what keeps getting your back injured. Squats are good for lower back and glutial work but that's it. Don't know why you'd focus so much on your butt, Butt Sahab :p:

Half your body weight - Thats embarrassing !

Don't tell me that you also do Yoga and aerobic classes right after going for a manicure ! :bunny:

Bhai Jaan....real men pump iron and there is no greater barometer for strength than squat, deadlift and bench press ! :smokin:

My form isn't as good as it ought to be....that why I keep injuring my back ! :(

And did you just use my name as a pun ? :o:

Chalooo koi nahin I've teased you enough times about your Uncle Jee anyhow ! :D

Its exactly that kind of thinking that makes more cripples than champions in our gyms, its not about lifting heavy, its about lifting clean and lifting strong. I squat about 50kgs and weigh 70kg at 13% bfp and I already have a chiseled lower back and glutes, there's very little that squatting 120kgs can accomplish for me except maybe winning me the praise of some of my fellow gym-goers and then injuring my back.
For exercises with a lesser chance of injury, I go higher but even then I try to keep the show off inside me in chains. My highest on deadlifts until now is 4 sets of 5 reps each at 100kg and bench press is 70kg at the same rep scheme.

Sethi Sahib key gal kar raheii ho tussiii....mein aaap ko show-off lagtaa hunn ? :pissed:

Janaaab lifting heavy is what builds muscle; ever seen those Olympic lifters ? :azn:

The trick is to lift with proper form and do compound exercises instead of isolationist ones ! :agree:

Squatting 120 kg is going to make your lower body super strong because progressive resistance is what builds muscle and strength. You'd have so much explosive power in your legs and your thigh muscles that you'd feel like a thorough bred ! :smokin:

Imagine doing the same with weighted pull ups; if you can pull yourself up 5 x 15 times with 2 plates of 20 kg each hanging from your waist....I can bet you anything that that kind of functional strength is going to carry through to any real life situation !

I am trying to get weighted vests to do pull ups with and to do sprints while wearing them ! :D

Olympic lifters are a whole different category of people and their exercises are far from limited to squats and dead lifts. However, they are also stocky and retain a good deal of fat which should deter most people who are going to the gym for cosmetic purposes, not to mention that the said physique is good for lifting extremely heavy but at the same time, is terrible if you ever need to run, which happens more often than I care to mention in my line of work :p:

If you are looking to weight your sprints, consider getting ankle weights, I've used them for quite a while and found them to be very effective, plus you can even wear them to work.
