Hasina and AL is just axing their own leg by running this bhartis centric foreign policy and implementing deal with the bhartis by giving up the interest of the country... This can be said BAL is facing the tune for its faulty activity and dalali advised by some bharati dalal... after loosing the Mayor election and loosing this election with 11-3 seat should be a wake up call for BAL...

I personally think no one care what hasina or khaleda personally do... but every one care about the activity that hasina is trying to do with regards to the interest of the country.... giving away one sided concession to the bhartis is not gonna serve any benefit of bangladesh...other then loss....n if she tries to do it with the advise of some bharati dalal then it should be said so...

BNP-Jamaat backed candidate won second time in raw since Awami leauge has come to power. This layers are citizen of Bangladesh and they are witnessing how AL destroying the basic fabric of law and justics system in the country. As a result they have slapped Awami backed candidate 2nd time in raw.

Althugh this is not a national election but Dhaka is the epicenter of all political activities in Bd. If election hold today, Awami will lose against Nationalist candidates for sure. :agree:

I congratulate to BNP-Jamaat backed candidate for this wondeful win.

Internal feuds, wrong selection seen as reasons

Internal conflicts, lack of coordination and organisational activities, poor selection of candidates and anti-government sentiment led to the defeat of ruling Awami League-backed lawyers in the Supreme Court Bar Association election, said some SC lawyers.

Pro-BNP body Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad has won 11 out of 14 posts while pro-AL Bangladesh Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad has to be satisfied with three posts.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam yesterday told The Daily Star that the victory of pro-BNP-Jamaat panel will facilitate the BNP-Jamaat alliance to fight against the government's move to hold trial of suspected war criminals and corruption cases against BNP leaders.

Earlier, pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers led by the SCBA president and secretary created chaos on the SC premises to hinder the procedure of cases against BNP leaders including its Chief Khaleda Zia, said the attorney general, apprehending that they might do the same in future.

Meanwhile, re-elected SCBA President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said the SCBA led by him would play a similar role to establish the rule of law, justice and rights of lawyers.

“We will continue to demand judges' appointment to the High Court and Supreme Court based on competence, neutrality and honesty,” he added.

A Samannay Parishad leader on condition of anonymity said an influential lawyer was unhappy with Abdul Baset Majumder, defeated candidate for the post of the SCBA president, as Baset was elected the vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council defeating him.

The influential lawyer and his supporters did not work for Samannay Parishad candidates in the SCBA election.

Ahead of the election, a number of senior pro-AL lawyers including some former SCBA presidents attended a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gano Bhaban. The influential lawyer did not attend that meeting either.

In the meeting, the PM directed the lawyers to work together but most of the senior lawyers did not communicate with the lawyer-voters and kept from campaigning for the pro-AL panel, said the lawyer.

He further said the attorney general's office moved to the SC against a number of HC orders, and obtained stay orders, which affected a number of general lawyers. As a result, the general lawyers became unhappy with the attorney general, who is also the policymaker of Samannay Parishad.

The lawyer said the government has decided to construct a 20-storey structure on SCBA premises to solve the accommodation crisis of lawyers. However, the decision was not implemented due to the lack of initiative from the Attorney General's Office and no-objection from the Chief Justice's Office.

The existing SCBA committee led by its president and secretary, however, illegally constructed some tin-shed rooms on the roof of the SCBA building to solve the accommodation crisis, the Samannay Parishad leader said.

He said the selection of some candidates from Samannay Parishad was poor, as they were picked by a lawyer-cum-cabinet member, defying the prime minister's choice. Meanwhile, many lawyers who did not get facilities from the government were not spontaneous during the election and even some of them opposed the Samannay Parishad candidates indirectly. The intelligence had informed the prime minister about this prior to the election, he added.

The Samannay Parishad leader said the Oikya Parishad panel has properly exploited these dissatisfactions and acted seriously under direct leadership of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

He alleged that the Oikya Parishad panel, which had been leading the SCBA for the last one year, took money from a Jamaat-run institution and purchased 10 air coolers and an ambulance for SCBA. This might have encouraged the lawyers to vote for the panel.

This was the observation of the learned Attorney General of Bangladesh after the High Court upheld sacking of Prof. Yunus from Grameen Bank on March 08, 2011

This lunatic was licking the foot of PM Hassina... by saying why you are raising the status of noble prize... It is PM Hassina and Shantu Larma those who supposed to get the noble peace prize ....

This as* hole forgetting the responsibility of his post while appeasing PM Hassina... under such Attorney General who can expect a neutral and better justice system and can hope of getting justice.
