BN adds 2 marine petrol aircraft

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)

DHAKA, Dec 18 (BSS) - Two new Maritime petrol aircraft will be added to Bangladesh Navy (BN) following a deal signed on last June with Bangladesh government and RUAG, an Aerospace Services GmbH providing maintenance services for civil and military aircrafts at Kurmitola at Cantonment here this morning.

An aircraft, Dornier 228 NG, was exhibited in the presence of heads of three services, Army, Navy and Bangladesh Air Force. The aircraft will leave here for Germany tomorrow.

Sales Executive of RUAG, Thomas Imke gave a brief on the urveillance power of Dornier 228 NG and said, "It is specially assembled to face any kind of emergency with 19-seat turboprop, new 5-blade propeller made of composite material, more powerful engines, and an advanced glass cockpit featuring electronic instrument displays."

"The craft's starting price of 6.2 million Euro would go up with additional rescue equipments", he said adding, "the craft can fly for 10 hours not stop passing 952 nautical miles."

RUAG Aviation pilot Sandro Guidetti told BSS, "228 NG features a glass cockpit and introduces airframe weight savings, and it's weighing around 36kg less than the original propellers and a vibration damping system."

He said, "The re-configuration of the aircraft is very easy so that it can also be used as a passenger craft and more environment friendly. It makes less noise at take off time."

A BN release said the force would be stronger if government adds this two aircrafts, which is more appropriate for any rescue mission, border surveillance, emergency communication and even to act as the authority of the law of sea.

The two propeller-driven aircrafts will certainly enhance BN's capability to guard our sea wealth from being pirated by our two big but poor and greedy neighbours.

The Do 228NG is the most versatile and most advanced high-wing aircraft in its class. This is why authorities all over the world count on it when it comes to demanding special missions of various kinds. Key features are the long range, high utilization rates and high payload -- and all this at impressively low operational costs. Pilots know that there is hardly another aircraft combining state-of-the-art technology and efficiency in the way the Do 228NG does.
