All new construction uses more cement/concrete than structural steel, which is what was mainly used for the US construction boom of the last century.

Murica also uses timber for housing instead of concrete like China, so the end result isn't as impressive (China only recently surpassed the US as the world's largest timber producer). But it's still pretty cool to see results like this nonetheless.

In fact, there is nothing for Mr.Gates to be shocked about, since China has four times more population, thus we need to build up the much bigger infrastructure in order to sustain the livelihood of our people.
