Govt unwilling to execute Iran gas pipeline project: Bilawal

The Newspaper's Staff Reporter May 12, 2019

SLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Saturday alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had bowed before international pressure and was unwilling to execute the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

In response to a news report about Pakistan’s alleged unwillingness to complete the project, Mr Bhutto-Zardari tweeted: “Once again federal government has bowed before international pressure & isn’t completing Iran-Pakistan Gas pipeline project. PPP initiated this project at height of international sanctions because we put Pakistan first. People pay price of leaders weakness in expensive gas bills.”

Pakistan has reportedly informed Iran in writing that it cannot execute the gas pipeline project as long as Tehran is under the United States sanctions regime.

President Donald Trump recently imposed new sanctions targeting Iran’s revenue from export of industrial metals and threatened further action unless Tehran changes its behaviour.

According to the agreement signed in 2009, the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project was to be completed by December 2014 to supply 21.5 million cubic metres of gas per day to Pakistan.

The pipeline was to be constructed using a segmented approach, with Iran having to lay the pipeline on its side and Pakistan to build it in its territory.

Under a penalty clause of the Gas Sales Purchase Agreement, Pakistan is bound to pay $1 million per day to Iran from January 1, 2015, for failing to build its part of the pipeline.

In January, Pakistan had urged Iran to explain in writing its interpretation of sanctions that resulted in a massive delay in completion of the gas pipeline project.

The project, under which Pakistan was reportedly supposed to receive as many as 750MMCF of natural gas from Iran per day through an agreement, is off the table for the past four years due to international sanctions imposed by the United Nations and the unilateral sanctions clamped by the US, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union.

PPP was always a treacherous one....Now coming out in open. PPP is agent of Iran....Uzair Baloch should ring a bell. I don't know how anyone can tolerate them.

Since it is a old 2005-2014 deal it does not falls under new sanction as it's a commitment we made many years ago

Plus the sanctions can't be applicable as the items are not transported by Sea

Govt bowed? Lol PPP had all the time to complete the project. PPP was in power for 5 years why PPP it's self failed to do so?

Please give a payment solution for the project and we can go ahead but under sanctions how will we pay Iran?

Parliament should be told it was ppp who has put Pakistan into this problematic situation by signing this short sighted Iran gas pipeline deal. Every Tom, dick and Harry knows in the world that US was against this deal. One has to wait for years to note considerable improvement in relations with US and Iran before having business with Iran else what's happening today with Iran would had put Pakistan directly into line of American sanctions.

Not only this, it was PPP who during their tenure deliberately handed over Gwader port operations to Singaporean firm from Chinese on the behest of Americans. This resulted in total freeze of developmental operations in Gwader for 4 years.

It was PPP, who installed American turd in Pakistan embassy of Washington, Hussein Haqqani, who gave visas to Americans without any verification.

It was PPP govt, who wanted to dissolve ISI by bringing political civilians in the agency as major stake holder.

In short Billu Rani should be reminded it was PPP who was doing everything against Pakistani strategic and interest. Current govt has so much stuff to bash PPP besides their corruption and incompetence yet they are not speaking aloud. PTI seems to target pmln only while they are not realising ppp is quickly gaining ground especially in media. I hope someone from pti should take remind ppp of their past mess.

He is proving illogical & baised toward Govt day by day, So billo rani tell us what have you done during PPP tenure in 2013 ?

On March 2013, inauguration of the construction works on the Pakistani section of the pipeline were inaugurated by your papa Mr10%. But your papa and your party PPP didn't officially nominated Tadbir Energy and local sub-contractors to begin work on the Pakistani half of the pipeline.
So yeah At first it is a fault of PPP.

Shaheed Bilawal Zardari has a point.
Shaheed ka rutba buland hai ye log tuo Pakistan ki matti mai dafan Hony k qabil bhi nhi.

Has any one of you seen this kind of "democracy" anywhere in the world. Its a circus.

How gadari party was able to fool the people was, that they inaugurated projects at the end of their corrupt term knowing that nothing will happen & they were never sincere with Pakistan.

Jabroni is only cashing in on BS
