Spend $2 billion and get 15 IL76 from Russia instead. The $2 billion saved goes to the MTRA that india & russia want to co develope

The IAF did not expect the aircraft deal to cost very much over $3 billion, and was taken aback by the price quoted by Washington.

How embarrassing, but that's the result of not going into a competition and openly stating the the C17 is the only aircraft that could fulfill the IAF requirements. It's a nobrainer that the manufacturere will try to get as much out of the deal as possible now, while they were forced to reduce the price in a competition.

Not paid for it yet and we will always pay more going via the FMS route, let them get back to us with how much the Canadian's or Aussie's paid then we can decide

It still think once all reasons are properly explained to the IAF/MOD/GOI that this deal will go through and unto 15+ more ordered, this is a minor hiccup that has been overblown, it is possible (once again-MMRCA) life-cycle costs, spares, maintenance, infrastructure and training were not taken into account/were underestimated. Just look at the C-130-30js, your not telling me 6 cost $1bn! This included all of the above as it is a completely new airframe so it has to be started broom scratch but all following planes will be cheaper as the set up costs will not be incurred. It's rather basic economics/common sense.

Well that is unless the IDIOTS at the FM don't get their grubby hands on it-MTA (A330)?
