Beyond PDF: Proposals

Hello,

Here's the situation: The PDF forum is on the verge of closure. Despite this, some moderators express interest in keeping the community alive. Unfortunately, saving the existing website appears unfeasible, leading us to the conclusion that starting a new website is the only viable option. Several users are in the process of creating new forums, some even setting up donation pages to support these initiatives.

While I don't oppose the creation of new websites, a concern arises when multiple factions emerge. To address this, I propose that instead of launching entirely separate platforms, these new initiatives should be considered as legal extensions or successors of the existing forum. I worry that if less established users initiate forums independently, they may lack support from senior members, resulting in the proliferation of various forums with none achieving success in the end. If they do want to go ahead, I alongside many senior members will still support them but they must come with a visionary plan

As an alternative, I'm reaching out to the old management to collaborate on creating a fresh forum. This option is open to all members interested in participating but priority will be given to those from the old management, followed by new recruitments. The idea is to have no singular owner; decisions and responsibilities will be shared among members based on their stakes. To anticipate this transition, I've registered both defencepk.com and pkdefence.com.

Option 2 invites everyone to participate, and users involved in the project will receive some form of stake, the details of which are yet to be determined. This approach involves charting a completely new path, with guidance from others. Given my background as a software engineer/web development experience, I can temporarily host the forum on my hosting provider. Once the old site is offline and the new one is operational, we can collectively agree on the way forward. At that point, I'll transfer the site to neutral hosting, technically owned by nobody/everybody.

Option 2 also means that WebMaster, Horus and many other Moderators will not be part of it. It is a collective effort by me alongside a few other MODs who will likely join. I have no intention of owning the website like WebMaster did. It will be a platform shared by many and I could be one of the many people with stake.

What are your thoughts on these options?
Excellent mature and well thought out. Time is of the essence - I can help - please let me know asap what you decide

Of course. Rewriting the rules with the same fundamental principles by prioritizing the same management can and will only go so far. Having said that, I will support your efforts as best as I can.
You just couldn’t help yourself could you?
Need to move that massive chip off your shoulder. An attempt is being made
For us to create a new home and you arrive without fail offering as usual……. Nothing

I have spent 22 years on the forums and to be honest with you, I have children, 12 hours of work per day, family and too many other things to do in life. So I would prefer a back seat while still doing my responsibility for the forum.

So I will be happy if Waz and one or two other members will be the Admin and I will still retain the role of a Super Mod just like I am. Waz is an excellent choice to lead us, but I would advocate for a model where responsibility is distributed among several members, and in return, they all share the stakes. With Waz on board, I'd confidently state that 50% of the forum is saved.
If you're going to do it - have loads of mods. Many hands make light work.

Ultimately I believe the community will throw their support behind us due us being seen as the safe and experienced option

Azmooda Tajarbakaar Team. After the great success here, what could be better to ensure greater success there? (j/k :D )

Isn't that what NS promises to the nation every time and they fall for it?

Please delete the above message if it offends anyone.

Delete all the Fauji sections.
They don't want people to discuss them, so be it.
Get banished into anonymity.
Same as nobody is bothered what's happening in محکمہ موسمیات

It brought you out of retirement didn’t it?
:p:

That's great,

If you're in, I can install the Xenforo software on defencepk.com tonight. The community will be invited to register on the new site, and the unauthorized websites will be removed from this forum, as we've been doing for years.

We can continue discussions on the new platform regarding the model, business rules, and shared responsibilities. Once everything is established and agreed upon in principle, we can even consider transferring the site to new hosting which is owned by all the stakeholders but limited access depending on the role of the member. Alternatively, someone else who has a cloud or dedicated hosting can also host the website but he must be a reliable person.

I think for now, I could install the software on one of my cloud hosting packages and it should do the job for now. The only reason to install there is because I already have one and it will be for free. The only expenditure for now would be to purchase the Xenforo software, and I'm open to either covering the cost individually or sharing it based on mutual agreement.

If you have any other proposal, feel free to mention it as I don't mind taking any route. I just want to save the forum however possible.
Costs around 300£ a month
I suggest a dedicated video section to generate revenue.

I have requested @waz to prepare a plan. Then we can gather a team just like we did on PDF for years... work together, share ideas, and make each other stronger. We will make collective decisions and lead this forum in the right direction.

Make a Research section.

Better moderation is a must, making rules won't improve the quality of the posts, it is internet and people will join for their trolling and one liners. I will be happy to help in any capacity I can.

1- Define the structure of forum
2- Set up 3rd Party cloud server so its protected
3- Define sections (Defense/Political/Social) etc
4- set up rules and regulations for moderators/TT/new users and guests

remember guys defence.pk become big because it discussed not only defense related topics but social and politics too, yes that brings a baggage of trash posts but that can be controlled, I personally experience the positive of social topics such as in times of covid a lot of information was available on this forum, I gave one persons information who was asking for some help (financially), we need to keep that in mind that overseas Pakistani's like me for us there has to be a section to remain connected to what's happening on ground so we can warn/educate our parents, I know my parents don't know how to go on Internet and they rarely watch news, only my father read news paper that is not as same as some quick and fast news/information we get here.

that's good idea, but also not only that initially we can allow the ads to generate revenue, i know webby didn't do that out of the good of his heart, but many on here will contribute if we have to just to keep a platform for Pakistani's but others as well, its important and not only you meet some decent people but at the same time you get awareness of what's going on around the world.

On the new forum ban anyone suspected of reporting this forum. Remember that Pakistan needs to be defended from all enemies, foreign and local, civilian and military.

And no Indians.

:p:

Not really, but I like your optimism (or dread) about my retirement ending. :D

Seriously though, I do not want to see PDF die like this, and will do everything I can to ensure a better successor.

Not all Indians are bad, @Joe Shearer @Kaniska and others are reasonable Indians you can hold conversations, I even had some private conversation with Joe through email, but trolls must be controlled.
