Never understood what Americans do with those massive trucks.
Tow campers,
Tow Trailer for Quads, Motorcycles, Dirt bikes, boats, jetski's
haul coolers, grills for camping
haul project (cars/bikes/wood/rocks/steel)
haul furniture during moves
hauling game
Some have business applications e.g. contractors, landscaping, painters, etc
... lots of applications. And also the fact most house holds have multiple vehicles.

Plus you have no fear of getting hurt in a crash with a car.

most of these trucks are sold in the upstate/interiors of a state. Not in plush downtown areas.
as in most "small cities" there is a huge need for "utility" vehicles for towing/lugging and for transport of good for business purposes. Many small business owners have dual usage from these trucks.
Its always a "small town" thing and is also quite revered in the small towns of USA.

Which means they are popular among dumb chicks who can afford them?

that was funny - dumb chicks buy dumb cars - by definition!
I am more worried about the 80 year old senile woman (and men too) who still drives her pick up truck like she doesnt care! both the truck and her are old and unreliable. the bet is on which one makes the first mistake. All due respects to the truck and the senile people!

If I could afford it, I would have a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT for long distance summer drives, a Ford F150 Raptor for the winter and general hauling stuff, and a Jeep Wrangler 4-door Rubicon for whenever I want to go off road. Of course, this is not counting my bikes.
