Eight Indian states account for more poor people than in the 26 poorest African countries combined, a new measure of global poverty has found.

The Indian states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, have 421 million "poor" people, the study found.

This is more than the 410 million poor in the poorest African countries, it said.

Does the BBC know that GoI provides for guaranteed rural employment these days & the poor are also eligible for highly subsidized foodgrains ? That'd be a NO btw even if our PDS system sucks we're still better than the sub Saharan Africa & just taking your daily earnings into account is no metric for poverty !

Poverty anywhere is a sad thought and i hope we remove as much as we can in the future years. I don't think its clever or big to bring a thread to the table regarding poverty - be it India Africa or Pakistan. The children starving in each of the nations are the same guys. Please lets not troll about a sad subject like this.
