They are known as amli-charsi, heroin-cocain is not known to be in Punjab in siginificant quantity.

It stupid to blame Punjab's drug problem on foreign factors. Its we Punjabis who are to blame. Even if the source is external we provide a big market. I belong to the Malwa region and I have seen countless lives sucked out and homes ruined. The simple fact is that the culture of Punjab is changing. The ample amounts of money have fueled a 'vehla' generation that just look for easy ways to blow their dad's money. They dont want to study, nor work in their farms nor do they want to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The situation is so bad, that today the Punjabi youth who has left Punjab is the safest.

Drinking is a far lesser evil than what grips the Sikh youth. Cough-syrups, Cocaine, Opium, Bhukki are the real killers.

This evil is all over the world so not to boast falsely specially when you are one of the biggest victim.

Lol no offence mate but perhaps you should refer to the WHO statistics onthis and not the "nation". This is a disease that is plauging communities the world over but to say Pakistan's figures are anywehre near India's... Well!!!... That's just wrong and you know it.

Now coming back to the issue of drugs, many have said legalise class b and class c drugs and that should curb the issue. I would say no, that would make it far worse.

You remove the stigma, but you also remove the fear of being caught, you will force many more into the arms of this curse. Where people with troubles social history or poor socio economic conditions will be forced to seek this as an outlet.

What you will end up having is the same problem most of Europe has with Binge drinking. I think drugs should stay illegal, more investment needs to be put in rehabilitation and engaging disilluisioned and demotivated youth to channel their latent energies in more positive areas.

I dont know why people blaming Pakistan for this problem. This is the responsiblility for Government of Punjab and people of Punjab. Every thing in that documentry is true and up to 80% youths do drugs in Punjab. Punjab word was created from five rivers but there is sixth river in Punjab, River of Drugs.

Legalize Marijuana, that should help.

to some extent this may help in curbing the worst category of drugs, but the people who already some marijuana will drag the cigarette smokers into it saying its legal and not that harmful.

smoking marijuana causes, Schizophernia, loss of memory etc etc
