This morning's test involved all the components of the weapons system, and was deemed successful. It was carried out in the presence of Israeli and Indian researchers, representatives of the Ministry of Defense, and military representatives from both countries.

The scenario began with launching the target. After being detected by the System's radar, the weapon system calculated the optimal interception point, launched the Barak-8 missile into its operational trajectory that acquired the target, and successfully intercepted it. All the weapon system's components met the test's goals successfully. The system includes an advanced Phased Array digital radar, command and control, vertical launchers and missiles carrying a highly advanced seeker.

“The system is now operational,” said Boaz Levy, executive vice president and general manager of IAI’s Systems, Missiles and Space Group. “All components of sea- and land-based systems were validated under realistic threat conditions,” Levy said of the vertically launched intercepting system designed for persistent defense against saturation attacks by long-range missiles and a spectrum of air-breathing threats.

Briefing reporters Nov. 10, Levy said he expected Barak-8 partners in Israel and India to declare initial operational capability (IOC) in “a number of months.”

In this test it was a direct hit, but it has a proximity fuze as well.

Yes exactly. I don't know who has edited it in wikipedia. It is plain wrong. A good fighter jet can break sound barrier more than enough time to break the lock and evade missile by just topping the max speed. Its top speed is more and it gets the boost from the pulse motor to give it last minute speed with added maneuverability to hit even highly maneuverable jets. Thank you.
