Nusrat Jahan Rafi was burned to death after reporting her head teacher for allegedly sexually harassing her.

A Bangladeshi student has been burned to death after reporting her head teacher to police for allegedly sexually harassing her.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 19, filed a complaint with local police on March 27 after her Islamic school’s headmaster allegedly called her to his office and touched her inappropriately, the BBC reported.

The police officer filmed Nusrat’s testimony on his mobile phone and could be heard calling the complaint “no big deal”.

The headmaster of the Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa was arrested that day and the distressing video of Nusrat’s testimony was leaked.

Nusrat faced escalating threats of violence in her conservative country, with local politicians demanding the headmaster’s release.

The brave woman refused to back down and on April 6, went to school to sit her final exam.

But once there, a female student took her to the school’s roof, saying one of her friends was being attacked.

Nusrat was then surrounded by four or five burqa-clad individuals who demanded that she retract her police report.

After refusing, the Police Bureau of Investigation Chief told the BBC, the student was doused in kerosene and set alight.

But, the BBC reported, the group’s plan to “make it look like a suicide” failed after the severely injured woman was rescued.

She suffered burns to more than 80 per cent of her body and died 10 days later.

But in her final act of defiance, the student recorded a statement on her brother’s phone exposing some of her alleged attackers.

“The teacher touched me,” she reportedly said as she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. “I will fight this crime till my last breath.”

Thousands of people attended Nusrat’s funeral in her hometown of Feni, about 160km south of Dhaka.

The BBC reports 15 people have been arrested over the murder, the headmaster remains in custody, and the police officer who filmed Nusrat’s testimony was transferred to another department.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met Nusrat's family in Dhaka and promised them justice.

"None of the culprits will be spared from legal action," she said.

Nusrat's death has sparked protests in Bangladesh, where many women and girls are discouraged from reporting abuse.

You are trying to hijack this woman's death for your own hate for foreigners. You call our countries and religion disgusting but you know nothing.

May Allah grant her Jannah and grant her family sabr.
