NEW captain Mushfiqur Rahim smashed the second last ball for six to lead Bangladesh to a Twenty20 win over the West Indies.

Bangladesh needed six runs in the last over to achieve a modest 133-run target before wicketkeeper-batsman Rahim (41 not out) hit paceman Ravi Rampaul's penultimate delivery over mid-wicket for a six.

The hosts were struggling at 6-93 before Rahim steadied the innings with a vital 35-run stand for the seventh wicket with debutant Nasir Hossain, who contributed a 15-ball 18.

Bangladesh required 20 runs in the last two overs, but Rahim and Hossain eased the pressure when they scored 14 in the 19th over bowled by debutant seamer Carlos Brathwaite.

Rahim, who hit two sixes in his 26-ball knock, also upstaged Marlon Samuels, who put in an impressive all-round performance for the West Indies. Samuels top-scored with a 42-ball 58 and took two key wickets with his off-spin.

Samuels removed former skipper Shakib Al Hasan for no score and then had well-set Mohammad Ashraful (24) caught by debutant Anthony Martin to reduce the hosts to 71-5 in the 13th over.

Left-arm spinners Shakib and Abdur Razzak earlier bagged two wickets apiece as Bangladesh restricted the West Indies.

Samuels was the lone batsman to defy Bangladesh's spin attack, but received little support from the other end. He hit four sixes and two fours before being dismissed in the last over.

Razzak, who opened the attack, finished with 2-27 while Shakib bagged 2-25. Seamer Shafiul Islam took two wickets in the final over to finish with 2-19 off four overs.

The West Indies, put in to bat, lost their way after being comfortably placed at 1-61 in the ninth over. Their slide began with the dismissal of opener Lendl Simmons (23), trapped leg-before by Razzak.

Off-spinner Naeem Islam and seamer Rubel Hossain each took one wicket.

Bangladesh and the West Indies will now play a three-match one-day series, starting in Dhaka on Thursday

It is like the story of Aamir Khan's film 'Lagaan.' He needed a six at the last ball. BD team did a good job. Congratulations.

LETS SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO IN THE ODI . ANY WAY IT WAS A FANTASTIC MATCH .

BTW HAVE YOU NOTICE SAKIB WAS SEEN DEPRESS IN COUPE OF TIMES DURING THE MATCH SEEMS HE IS NOT HAPPY AT MUSHFIQ HEROIC DEBUT

I hope BD team would give Pakistan a good challenge in the upcoming series. I want to see good cricket.

I would hope so but recently PAK's players without their ace pace-batteries (Asif, Amir) have played remarkably well. And the arrival of Aizaz Chema and Junaid Khan would complement Omar Gul and Wahab Riaz nicely. OTH, BD's was average and losing to ZIMBO, especially to Vitory was frustrating whereas PAK's batsmen played him with ease. Furthermore, its dependence on SLAs wouldn't add much value as PAK has Abdur Rehman's liked in that dept too. But having said all that BD sometimes is a real tiger in its soil that might create upset. BTW, Mushy's towering six had a trade mark and most of its types reached at gallery.

Actually I just want to see good cricket from BD. I don't want one sided matches. Pakistan team itself is in a rebuilding process so more pressure and strong challenge they would receive more better it would be for Pakistan team.

negative. Cause bangladeshi players are divided into Two groups. BKSP and Non-BKSP. Ex-bksp players are a strong gang led by shakib... mushfiq is in this group... Rakibul also belonged to this group.. This is why he was in the team after repeated failure as he was a BKSP mate of Shakib....Sakib should be happy as his own man is the new leader.... Earlier shakib lost his captancy. Do you know why??? He didnt give salam to a prominent awamileague leader . . . .

He was depressed becoz he got out for a golden duck. I think there is too much responsibilities on his shoulders as being the number one crickter in bd, everyone expects him to deliver. Bd supporters expect him perform magic every time he walks onto the pitch

What is BKSP and non-BKSP?

What is BKSP and non-BKSP?
BKSP stands for 'Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratistan'. Rumors like infighting between BKSP and Non-BKSP walas are still to be proved. And Shakib, Mash both have denied such allegation. The botom line is when team loses in sub-continent, many conspiracy theories emerge whereas players become hero by overnight when they win. Shakib once has commented that digging deep to find real faults are absent in our culture, hope you've got my drift.

BRO, he was but it got faded away by more international exposure and I could vouch it by providing counter argument of each and every recent allegation against him. Knowing premiers of last four generational cricketers of BD, I could guarantee that no one except Nannu was probably as committed cricketer as Shakib. And Tamim-Shakib perfectly fit in the mix of evolution towards professionalism. Only if nine others were like them!
