Bangladesh will raise the issue of occupying its land by Indian nationals backed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the director general-level talks between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF in New Delhi today.
Major General Rafiqul Islam, the BGB director general (DG), will lead the 20-member Bangladesh delegation in the six-day meeting.
The team will include home ministry Deputy Secretary Md Siddique Ullah Bhuiyan and a top official of the Bangladesh embassy in India.
A senior home ministry official said Bangladesh will also protest building of structures and military wire obstacles, and constructing roads by BSF and Indian nationals within 150 yards of zero point defying international law.
The BSF backs the Indian nationals occupying Bangladesh land at some border points, the official said, adding that sometimes the Indians intrude into Bangladesh, kidnap locals and loot their crops and other belongings.
A host of other crucial issues including the entry of illegal drugs from India and the Bangladeshi prisoners in Indian jail will dominate the talks, ministry sources told The Daily Star.
However, the killing of Bangladeshi teenage girl Felani by BSF will not be discussed, as it has been resolved in a secretary-level meeting in Dhaka between the two countries, they added.
Felani, 15, was shot dead by BSF men when she was coming from India through Phulbari border in Kurigram on January 7. India later regretted the killing.
Meanwhile, PTI quoting BSF DG Raman Srivastav said BSF has given BGB a list of camps of Indian rebel groups in the northeast of Bangladesh. India also received from Bangladesh a list of groups using the Indian soil for criminal activities for long.
These issues are also likely to dominate the talks, PTI adds.
In the last DG-level talks, Bangladesh agreed on the setting up of military wire obstacles by BSF at 46 points within 150 yards of the zero point.
But India is setting up structures and constructing roads at other border points without informing Bangladesh.
