Bangladesh signs up for Russian nuke tech made to fit

This ain't the 60s-80s dear. Getting nukes is extremely difficult nowadays.
Nuke were difficult to build even in 60s and 80s, are difficult to build in 2000s and will remain so for foreseable future as the Nuke regieme operates under strict controls getting tighter and tighter everyday.

Reading the article above; I don't think BD is importing nuclear technology for making a missile. Its just for power generation.
now thats an interesting information for me

Idiot and ignorant people like you can dream of and claim as such. Go through the previous posts... I said clearly if bd really needs to go for nuclear option... They will do it after withdrawing from NPT and red line will be the acquiring of nuclear weapon by myanmar. Apart from that if bd goes nuclear it will do it after making sure it has the enough political backings to sustain political pressure aftarwards. Just go n check how Pakistan acquired nuclear weapon and how it funded it. Economy of bd is in much better shape than that of Pakistan in 1998 when it becomes nuclear. N obviously then dirt poor India in 1975. N if bd really go nuclear it will do it after doing the cost benefit analysis. I do not see it is happening anytime before 2020 to 2030 timeline.

Umm... I feel it is you who is ignorant and have his/her buried quite up ur a$$. Pakistan was able to acquired the bomb 'cause US **choose** to look the other way. The Cold war was at its zenith and US could do with all its allies in the region. The world has changed since then. A whiff of a country developing nukes results in very strict sanctions. Unless BDs literally want to eat grass, I don't think they would 'dream' of going nuclear.

Regarding cost, I was speaking in terms of cost of weaponising. India exploded a crude device in the 70s. To build a bomb you need a design. It not like you would fill up Plutonium from a reactor in a sutli bomb and light the fuse. China as close it is with BD will not be giving it a bomb design. Moreover, centrifuges are a sophisticated piece of technology which a few countries have mastered. Notably Pakistan. BD would need this critical piece to proceed. BD cant have a plutonium based arsenal cause that require breeder reactors. These are sophisticated reactors which are different from your run-of-the-mill uranium powered reactors for electricity. The main cost is creating warheads, delivery systems. Keeping these systems up-to-date and ready for deployment. This is the cost I am talking about, not of building A single bomb.

Regarding Myanmar getting the nukes, well they can't buy oil from the world due to sanctions, forget them getting nukes anytime soon. But from what I have read on this forum India is a big bad monster which already have nukes. So hasn't the red line already been crossed? :)

India got the technology for precisely that use ie power generation from Canada and decided to weaponise. So don't be surprised if someone does decide to go nuclear with the tech

Good to see that Bangladesh is choosing Russia as well. At least we can have similar infrastructure and understanding to increase better regional cooperation in nuclear energy which is clean and effective for our countries.

My point exactly.

Anyways, building nukes is not really in Bangladesh's strategic interests now and the future. We already have two big neighbors who are nuclear armed.

Bangladesh really needs to boost its power sector though. This deal with the Russians is good news.

Finally a sane post. The question is not whether BD can do it or not. The question is whether it can **afford** to do it.

Power generation will be the main use of such a reactor plus other medical uses creating isotopes for chemo and radio therapy.

Plus it helps build a scientific base for future projects and advanced studies. People on this forum talk like kids high on hormones without putting in an iota of research into it...
