Earlier on May 21, the country witnessed the second highest power generation of 12,057MW

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) registered a whopping 12,893 megawatt (MW) production on Wednesday night, setting a new record for the country.

According to the BPDB sources, the record-breaking generation took place against the forecasted demand of 14,796MW at 9pm, followed by the previous highest production of 12,539MW on May 21.

Bangladesh’s power sector first crossed the 12,000MW mark on the June 24, with the third highest generation of 12,057MW.

Prior to that, 11,534MW was the maximum power generation recorded on September 17 last year, with the previous highest generation being 11,387MW on July 18. Bangladesh’s power sector touched the 11,000MW mark on July 7 the same year.

Earlier, Bangladesh crossed the 10,000MW mark for the first time on March 19, 2017, before which the country generated 9,000MW of power for the very first time on June 30, 2016.

As of Wednesday, Bangladesh’s installed power generation capacity, including captive power and renewable energy, is 21,419 MW.

The BPDB has taken up an extensive capacity expansion plan to add about 11,600 MW over the next five years, aiming to generate 24,000MW of electricity by 2021, and 40,000MW by 2030, for which a mammoth investment of around $80 billion is needed.

The massive investment plan is also meant to provide uninterrupted power supply, Power Division officials said, adding that the government is committed to ensuring 100% electricity coverage by 2021. Currently, 90% of the population has access to electricity.

So whilst its commendable that power generation has increased .... we are still unable to satisfy demand which I guess is outpacing the growth of supply.

Divert resources .... every cent spent on power generation will return many times the quantifiable benefit.

Last time I was at Dhaka was 2009 and it was pretty bad. Hope they finally fix things. You cant have digital Bangladesh without electricity lol.

Between 2009 and today, massive change has taken place, as far as all infra and logistics, not just electricity. The situation is almost comparable to pre- and post industrial revolution. Load shedding has been cut down to almost zero.

The changes are too numerous to outline.

I am planning to visit in June....can’t wait!!! It’s been long time....I miss home.

Three things in bd in the past decade that should be appreciated
The power generation
The navy/ Shipbuilding
The Garments industry

Well i last visited in 2016... peak power demand... not a single power cut and ones the transformer blowed up... they fixed that shit in half an hour.
power is pretty good now

i'll visit again this year... hopefully if i pass my finals in one go

Good riddance, as long as raptors out of the game
We lost first two round in eastern conference but won the title. Still have five round left for Finals. The fact that being only team in NBA not south of the border and still manage to be in final something to brag about.

In 2009 power was actually improving. The real disaster stared actually from 2005. 2005-06 was actually death time. From 2007 ( During Fakhruddin regime ) it started to improve slightly with quick rental system from various generator owners.

Then in 2009 it not as bad as past days, actually lot lot better comparing 2005-2006 ( indeed 1 hour electricity and 1 hour loadsheding is much better that 2/3 hours loadsheding and 1 hour electricity outside Dhaka).
And now electricity is actually a magic. I don't know what is loadsheding from few years. Only if heavy storm occurs and electricity line is harmed then we suffer. But it last only 5/6 hours at maximum . In 2005-06 even suffered 48+ house without electricity after storm.

That time PDB line men didn't work after 10 pm. Now 24 hours service available. In cruel summer sometimes electricity play more vital role than food.

As you may not suffer if you don't take meal 24 hours, but if there is hot 36 + degree and you have no electricity, you can't even eat in hot summer.

This is one of the main reason many non AL folks never considered BNP under Khaleda and Tareq as the alternative to AL.

As you may not suffer if you don't take meal 24 hours, but if there is hot over 35 degree and you have no electricity, you can't even easily eat in hot summer.

This is one of the main reason many non AL folks never considered BNP under Khaleda and Tareq as the alternative to AL.
I am not BNP supporter really dont care. But AL should allow people to vote. If they did a good job they will win anyway. Now they have 95 percent seat which is kind of joke and this could lead to more corruption and lack of accountability.

Yes I agree. But I also believe that after removing Zia Family ( Zia was great man I know, but his wife and son is opposite) , I think again we will see pure democracy.

Now this gap is for the sake of stability of Bangladesh and that's why most of Bangladeshis are silent you see.

But certainly after this time non AL people will speak for other parties ( not BNP for sure), and democracy will prevail again. And if they go astray like BNP, their fate will be same I believe. But that's different topic.

I guess we have to wait till Hasina retire from politics and she don't give power to her son after that.
