I see so much potential here. Bangladesh tannery industry community in Dhaka has relocated and has a huge modern shared effluent treatment plant. They are already exporting shoe subcomponents (uppers) to Italy which Italy uses to produce their expensive shoes.

Italy could utilize the low cost labor and provide design expertise so more leather goods components and completed leather goods could be exported.

I personally know so many Bangladeshi leather goods manufacturers who are eager to collaborate with Italy who can leverage low-wage labor in Bangladesh to capture more export market for their own self in developed markets such as US, EU and parts of Asia.

What incentive could Bangladesh provide to Italian business folks to utilize local facilities in Bangladesh? And I don't think training Bangladeshi business folks will provide much benefit. It is the design staff and workers who need training in producing higher-value-addition items. Maybe not Burberry, Gucci, Prada, YSL or Givenchy, but midgrade stuff sold in US market like Michael Kors etc.

If Italian designers want legal protection for their copyrighted designs then so be it.

Let's discuss.

How can someone get into the leather business as a middle man or as buying house. Do you have any input on that?

Well you have to contact both the importer/wholesaler in Europe as well as the leather-goods exporter in Bangladesh. The job of a buying house is to a) develop acceptable samples, and b) coordinate local production in Bangladesh so that production properly mimics the agreed-upon sample design and they are made and exported on time.

Leather-goods exporters have an association, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry website will have their office contact no. etc. You have to start talking to these folks because they will become your production collaborator.

Some of the larger Bangladeshi companies have their own design house for developing samples to show the importer in EU but you can go over to Thailand to see contemporary modern designs for say wallets, stationery leather-goods (business organizers), bags, purses, cellphone cases etc. to mimic those.

There are tons of these leather-goods makers in Dhaka and they all belong to that association. This is a very labor-intensive industry and needs excellent skills for more expensive items.

Bangladesh leather is world-renowned especially Bakra (goat) leather or kid-leather as it is called. Ostrich, Alligator and snakeskin leather items are also made locally and are in good demand.
