No I am not talking india taking or losing or bangladesh gaining or losing territory by war with each other. I am talking about the island we are hearing for a long time to rise from bay of bengal, which is almost the same size of bangladesh. If it happens when will it happen. Or will it ever happen. So?

buddy I last discussed it about 10 years ago so that is why I am asking to shed some light you knowledgeable people. I am not sure it is the size of bangladesh but it is huge.

well, last time during my visit to NARIKEL JINJIRA, captain of the ship announced that there is a land rising south of teknaf which was lost due to an earth quake 150 years ago.... I don't know about its size anyway....

Make a google earth search, you will not see any rise of seabed in the BoB. However, you will see the shade of a line that stretches from west to east and which lies about 200 km south of BD coast. This is the line where the present day BD land was located during the last ICE AGE that ended about 10,000 yrs ago, and is called a Continental Shelf.

But, people usually tend to think this shade as a proof of building a new big island, although, I believe there are some small spots of newly formed small islands in the BoB. The area that contains within this shade line is our Exclusive Economic Zone or EEZ. Note that by international law, BD can also claim the sea about 200km(?) beyond this shade line as its Economic Zone or EZ.

As i understand, the coastal lines around the world are receding not expanding. Essentially BD is sinking... Unless BD will take an effort to reclaim land, it will see its boundaries decrease (All the more reason to take back Assam! :woot:)

^ do you know how bangladesh is formed?? By the soil carried by rivers from Himalayas. The same reason is responsible for reduction of depth near our sea shore i guess.

It sank. If only we could have acted fast and planted vegetation on that island, i think it would have still existed today.
